That was Murf wasn't it Megsy ?...... (see if my memory is still there with-out using Google)... You could have sold an empty coke can and said He drank out of that, and got good $$ for it...
Some people are sooo passionate about their motorsport aren't they....
I remember back in the day of the old Surfers Paradise Raceway, I scored a job as a Pit Marshal and loved being track-side for the Bikes, Cars and best of all The Drags... Nothing like standing in the middle of 2 Top Fuel Dragsters on launch... I could feel every bone in my body shake and used to go home feeling real sore... :drooling: and getting peppered with hot rubber.. :perfect: no wonder Im part deaf in one ear...Lol
I only lived 3min down the road from there, and used to be 'Invited' for lots of testing days as well...
Love My Motorsport... but strangely never been to Bathurst...

Yes, it was indeed Murphy and Richards who won that year. Surprised the hell out of everyone - especially us! :p And yeah, they bought everything we had in stock - right down to the items displayed on the walls - we were cleaned out. And inundated with orders over the phone for the next few weeks for merchandise too.

That was Dick Johnson's last race too, so a big year for them in merchandise too.

But nothing like two years earlier when Peter Brock raced his last Bathurst. HRT had 10 truckloads of merchandise that was sold that time! It was nuts! Lines of fans that were hundreds of metres long waiting for him to sign stuff, and he was fantastic to spend so much time with the fans. Pity the car let them down and he didn't win, but that's racing...

I'm not really into drags, but I love the superbikes and have a few friends who raced them. Standing near one of those things when they rev, makes your chest and brain rattle! With you on the deaf in one ear too mate! But you get that...

Bathurst hasn't been the same since the Holden v Ford competition ended, but it's still worth the trip - big party time! :)

And getting back on topic... I was standing about 100m from where Craig Lowndes rolled his car multiple times at Calder in 1999. I thought he was dead. It was horrific to watch and just goes to show that these cars are pretty good with protective cages and roll bars for the drivers to get out of these high speed crashes alive.

The first race I ever attended in Australia was the last ever grand prix held in Adelaide in 1995. I was standing about 80-100 metres away watching Mika Hakkinen fly into a wall at some speed. I honestly thought that I had just witnessed one of my favourite F1 drivers die. Not good. Apart from that and the finale band being Bon Jovi, which made me beat a hasty exit, I had an absolutely FANTASTIC weekend there!
Been to Sandown to watch some mates race and did race carts @ Philip Island once and to watch a mates son in the Aussie nationals in Melbourne port. Great fun.
Never been to Bathurst!

I don't think Chiron would mind as He seems to like his Motorsports too. ;) ... We don't/won't know any more on the Crash till the Investigation is over, so in the meantime... :)

Wouldn't it be a Fairy tale ending to a FINE career if Craig won this Week-end. They have a 'special' wrap on his car for his last full-time race, Wrapped in the same Colours as his Championship win in 2006....

There are some big crashes in most Motorsport and due to their 'Engineering' not too many Deaths occur thank God.. .... O:)

Mika Hakkinen and Ayrton Senna were My Heroes in their day in F1 too diggit. Shed a tear when Senna was Killed or Murdered, which ever way you want to look at it 8.(
I went to Adelaide for the first ever F1 race.. A sight Never Forgotten... Shame 'Politics' have ruined F1...

And fingers crossed We will have the Indy Cars back here on the Gold Coast in 2020... They are a sight to see too...

Soooo Should we have a Bathurst thread, a F1 thread, a F3 thread, a Supercar Thread, a Karting thread, a Bike thread or should We just use one thread for All Motorsport ? and Appropriately named CRASH...

Chiron has started this one and I really don't think he would mind... Chiron?.......... :koala:

Just saw Lowndesy's new wrap - prospectors should like it! :)

https://www.supercars.com/news/cham...g-lowndes-gets-special-livery-for-last-event/

A good bloke, Lowndesy. Never heard anyone say they didn't like him - regardless if they were Holden or Ford fans - he's just an all-round good bloke, and a great driver!
Wish him all the best this weekend to go out on a high, hearing his fans cheers from on top of the podium.

He will be back in the enduros though, so it's not goodbye forever - just the full time season racing. :trophy:

I pissed Foxtel off years ago when I'd had enough of the encroaching advertising. The rep on the phone told me 'its so we can afford to bring you better programmes' ...... yeah, bit rich on the monthly fees then fella!
Anyway, I'm missin it now .... might even relent & subscribe again :awful:

I will let you bite me, only if you are wearing Leather DD..... LOL... {) .....The only reason I have it and I will rub a little harder if you don't mind :playful: Is that My Daughter has Worked at Foxtel for well over 10yrs and she gets 2 FREE Subscriptions as part of Her Contract... Yep I pay zero for the Top Package and She has all the extras like some sort of Movie channel plus full foxtel as well.. So they can Repeat as much as they like. When I cant find anything to watch, I go and play with My Rocks and Crystals
Hoping she can score free NBN (Not Better Network) next year when We are forced to swap-over. Im NOT looking forward to that.. :playful: :playful: :playful: :playful: :playful: :playful: :playful:

For every ladder there is a snake...hence the popularity of the 'board' game.

Hey LoneWolf,
I don't mind where this thread goes. :Y:
I only posted it because I thought it was an amazing crash.
I used to be motor racing tragic. :p
Until the TEN network done a deal with Foxtel that allowed Foxtel to get most of the motor racing.
I won't allow anyone to push me into paying for my TV viewing. So now I watch very little motor racing. 8.(
Recently I thoroughly enjoyed watching the last Moto GP event for this year from Valencia.
Pi**ed down with rain ....... crashes everywhere ........ a ripper!

Yes and Rossi lost it at the end..... Rain make it more interesting tho....

Its ALL about the $$$ now as far as TV is concerned....

Hey all,
Still on the motor racing theme -

I was binge watching all the Gold Fever shows on 7Plus (that's channel 7's on demand app, if you have a smart TV).
I was watching episode 7 - about finding gold in Carolina in the US - And who was the special guest?
None other that Aussie Marcos Ambrose - former V8 Supercar and US Nascar driver.
Marcos took Tom Massie (the host of the show) and his daughter out to a favourite location for a spot of gold dredging.
From what was mentioned on the show, it seems Greenies are making life difficult for prospectors in the US now too.
Anyway, according to Marcos, he'd spent a lot of his spare time hunting gold in both the US and Australia.
Who would of guessed?
