I recently bought 2 packets of frozen fish for a quick meal last week.
Barramundi, Buety not ******* or bassa. :)

Found out later that the Asians have a fish called Barramundi. I
wonder what it was fed on.
Yes, I re read the packaging, processed in Vietnam.
There is a poo fight which so rightly should be
to have the name removed from imported processed fish.

Taking into consideration they are going as far as South America
and also encroaching on other's fishing grounds.

The latest crap coming out of China is 40 tons of Aussie live rock lobsters are now sitting on a Chinese tarmac to spoil !
They want them tested for heavy metals or any reason the bugger us up .

If I was in control that would be the last lobsters they ever get from us . :argh:

We simply give them the local name Barramundi - other countries give them their local names - e.g. bhetki (Bengal), chonak (Goa), pla kapong (Thailand). All exactly the same fish.

As Australians we should be more careful with our purchases. If the Barramundi looks like this it's genuine

Under Australian law it's mandatory for retail seafood to be labelled with the country of origin.
Seafood cooked or prepared for immediate consumption, like from restaurants, takeaways, is currently exempt from this requirement. It shouldn't be!
There is a standard for the correct naming of seafood but I don't believe it's mandatory yet. Probably only followed by small, local seafood retailers?
Using the name Barramundi in the sale of fish should immediately indicate that it's fish that's been caught or farmed here in Australia. Using it to sell Sea Perch from Thailand etc. is misleading & should be illegal.
 
Salt water barra's better.... not got that muddy water taste about them.

I'd rather eat a Neoceratodus forsteri(not that I can now).... same family

You can add the Indonesian name to that list , its Kapap Putih (forgive the spelling) means white bass pronounced Cakap pooty
 
Back on topic, I noticed this advert on Gumtree today which has an amusing contrast between the Aussie seller's realistic description and the Chinese manufacturer's nonsense title on the box:
