Hey Heatho, the Porsche You blew off probably had a couple of plug leads off.

Ridge runner, there are 911s and then there are fast 911s. If you had come up on a 911RS or RSR all you would have seen would have been taillights disappearing in the distance.

I don't think So, My Ford did 115mph Not KPH in 2nd Gear with still 2 gears to Go. Some cars were faster off the mark but not when it came to top end. And I don't think that those model Porsche's were around in 1987,

Ridge Runner, top end in an RSR is over 300kph. Don't think your Ford would do that down a slippery mine shaft.

The RSR was designed for that sort of speed . Your Ford definitely was not.

Yeah but the RSR was not invented back than Ay, And when you consider what speed the Fords and Holdens were doing down Conrod straight in the 70's and 80's they were not far off the pace,

You would be shocked at what speed a V8 Holden or Ford can do when you rev them up past 8300rpm, Frightened the **** out of my self only ever did it 2 maybe 3 times down the Highway and it was very scary even with a very slight curve in the road, Great Cars but not at those speeds, It had a big impact on me in that when I realized what I had done pushing it to the limit like that, I have never broken the speed limit since, In fact I always drive 5 to 10mph under the limit now,

It still gives me the jitters when I think of it, This is why I got in to F-100's and F-350's and 4x4's because I could not handle those speeds and they were more about being careful and having fun than having a lead foot.

Ridge Runner, the first RSR came out in 73 but to be fair they did not top the 300kph mark until the mid eighties. I had a chance to buy one in the late eighties, but already had a Carrera that the previous owner had spent twenty grand on the engine, and then went bust due to gambling. That particular RSR sold recently for over $700,000.
I did get a ride in it when I was thinking of buying it for $65,000. From memory it had about 500bhp.

Just down the road from me if I go there in the early evening or on the weekend I can see all those high end cars, I see Sly Stallone and a few other well known folks driving some Awesome cars, and A Pommie Vauxhall 6 cylinder ( Commodore ) that is good for 289+ kph and that was made in 1990 With a 0 to 160kph in 11.1 Seconds But when tested it actually does 0 to 160kph in 10.6 Seconds, And those little Cosworth Escorts 4x4's were another rocket ship, and the little Lancia Intagralli was a Bullet on wheels and it was 4x4.

Pretty sure it was a Cayman, nothing special, not very quick either.

Not much on the road is going to beat the newer 911's.

What model have you got these days Reg?

Not a performance car officianardo, I noticed on a recent car performance show on tele that one of the chosen vehicles was a KIA something or other. So is it foreseeable that a KIA could win bathurst??

:N: :N: :bomb: :fire: :poop: :100:

Kia Stinger maybe? The top models have a twin turbo V6 under the bonnet.

Good mate of mine brought the last of the true aussie muscle cars, a 2017 hsv gts :Y: had to wait ages for it to be delivered and told his missus it was an investment ;) and it probably will be one day. Now this thing is a rocket on 4 wheels, it might even give your Porsche Carreras a run for their money maybe?.

Heatho, no more Porsches for me mate. Kept getting tickets. Cops just love booking Porsches, especially the hotter ones, like Carreras and 930s. Cop magnets.
These days my 'toy' is a BMW 635csi. You may remember that Jim Richards and Tony Longhurst raced these at Bathurst. They were the black and gold John Player Specials. My Beemer is a bit tricked up, but doesn't attract the cops like my Porsches did.
A good mate of mine and old prospecting partner drives a late model Porsche 911 Carrera S. If Licking windows thinks a hsv gts could get near that thing he is kidding himself.

Hey reg. The hsv gts wouldnt keep up with a new carrera, but youre older one you were telling us about 0-100 in under 5 sec would have been a good matchup :Y: as the hsv get to 100 in around 4.5 sec

Licking windows, yes the hsv would do my old Porsche no doubt, but back in its day it was pretty quick and could knock off GT HOs. My 429 Cyclone could also beat HOs.
The Tesla is a hole new ball game as electric has maximum torque from rest, unlike the internal combustion engine, which develops torque with revs. Interestingly, steam also has maximum torque from rest.

Yeah a few mates of mine have Porsche's and say the same thing, they spend most of the time in the garage so they don't get booked.

In Europe There are so many fast cars, The 997 GT2 is 22 on the list Carrera GT only just makes it in to the top 30 fastest cars and the 911RS just made it on the list at number 49,

Things like the cheap little Caterham Seven Superlight R500 comes in at 15 on the list, The Caterham was originally the marketing company for the LOTUS 7 and apart from adding a rollbar you can take these little things on the Track on the weekend, And they have to be the most exciting car you can buy off the show room floor and you can pick them up for 15 - 20k and In the hands of a skilled driver they will frighten the **** out of you, In standard Street form the SEVEN 620R using a 2 litre ford Duratec engine This Road going Bad Boy does 0 -60mph in 2.79 Seconds. If you want Fast get one of these because the Caterham 7 /Lotus 7 is the most fun you can have with ya Pants On. and the road going version is speed limited to 155mph/ 249.39kph Have them remove the limiter and tune it and you will see it hitting the 190/200mph barrier. The Slowest one they make does 0 - 60mph in 5 Seconds.

the little Ariel Atom V8 comes in at number 3, No disrespect but due to how many fast cars off the show room floor there are on the market now Porsche has lost it's glamour and are many driven by retired doctors and the like,

Nice put down Ridge Runner. Pretty obvious that you have never owned a Porsche.

The Caterham is a quick car at low speeds. So is a go cart. The Caterham has a top speed of 249 kph. It doesn't rate in sports car racing where Porsche consistently comes out tops above makes like Ferrari and Lambo.
There are cars that are quicker than Porsche, and a few that are faster, but not many have the reliability to win as many races as Porsche does.
