Who am I?
I was transported to Australia for stealing, managed to escape once in Australia and was not seen for another 30 years.

I didn't think it would take long, GT has it.
William Buckley escaped in Melbourne and lived with the Aborigines for over 30 years. He was adopted by them because when they found him asleep he was holding a spear that was placed over the body of one of their deceased so they assumed he was their tribe members spirit returned.
Over to you GT.

I think we've had questions on Buckley before.

Here is the details on my previous question about the first commercial shipment from the colony.

In 1801 the brig Lady Josepha, 120 tons, the first vessel of any size to enter Hunter's River, loaded 150 tons of coal for Sydney. This cargo was sold to Captain Tennent of the Earl Cornwallis who was preparing to sail for Bengal. Commenting on this sale, Governor King wrote; 'This is the first return made from New South Wales." It was indeed the colony's first export.

Thanks Magilla,

Mate can you have another go Im over at the Adelaide Caravan show in 40 degree heat !!! I wont be able to monitor answers until Monday so to keep it moving please post another question. Cheers and Beers
GT

I'll put a question up to keep things moving if that's ok. What a country we live in. Cyclones and torrential rain up north and 40 degrees in Adelaide.

Where was "The Botany Bay of Botany Bay?"

That was Norfolk island, so called because it was the penal colony of the penal colony.
We have also had a question of the first coal mine before, a long time ago!

We sure have covered a lot of ground in this thread.

Well i cant believe that when i started this thread how popular it was going to become, to everyone who has taken part i thank you and i have learnt so much it has been great
We are coming up on 400 000 views so who ever has the question open when we go over the 400 000 will get a prize i have not decided what it will be yet but i will announce it in the next day or two
Thanks again to everyone involved

Over to you Dr.

We sure have covered a lot of territory. Hard to remember which questions have already been asked. I was away from this topic for a while but I'm back now with renewed interest.
The most visited and replied to topic on the forum. Congrats Duck. Thank you for starting the thread.

Sorry for the delay, I've had visitors for the last few days.

Anyway, I met a couple of notorious blokes at the races, and very briefly joined their gang.

This got me an unfortunate nickname, and an even more unfortunate outcome.

Just noticed what this thread is about, just awesome I love history, our history. Just spent the last hour reading about our colourful bush rangers. No idea what the answer is, but I'm addicted!

I'll give a hint, and obscure one, though. I was looking up the bloke to find out more about him and found out that the son of a recent Australian test cricket captain has the blokes name as his given names. Can't believe dad had the bloke I'm after in mind when naming his son, though.

If no one gets it, I'll but up some easier clues tomorrow.
