Sorry guys. Went to see the grandson and didn't pose a question first.

What is found IN the gippsLAND and no where else in the world?

Also went to the library.. history books to try find something you don't know.
Bloody paying for it now... Gout has flared up. Silly me.

I thought that would take longer Duck.

Even in a land of extraordinary creatures, the giant worms of Gippsland are exceptional. Called Megascolides australis, they are the worlds largest earthworms, growing up to twelve feet in length and more than six inches in diameter. So substantial are they that you can actually hear them moving through the earth, with a gurgling sound, like bad plumbing. What it is about this one small corner of Victoria that led to the evolution of extremely outsized worms is a question that science has yet to answerbut then, it must be said, very few of the worlds best minds are drawn to the questions of earthworm physiology and distribution

The USS Holland (AS3) arrived in Fremantle to establish the new Fremantle Submarine Base as home for 8 submarines of the Asiatic Fleet. The Officers of the submarine command started to arrive in Fremantle and finally started to form a united command. Captain Wilkes ordered that two large wheat loading sheds on the wharf be leased. They were each 800 feet long and 50 feet high making them very suitable for their submarine workshop space. The area was also serviced by a railway line which was ideal for their operation. They also established an Auxiliary Submarine Base at Albany further south on the Western Australian coast.

The Australian ports of Fremantle and Brisbane were important bases for Allied submarines during World War II. A total of 122 United States Navy, 31 Royal Navy, and 11 Royal Netherlands Navy submarines conducted patrols from Australian bases between 1942 and 1945. Fremantle was the second largest Allied submarine base in the Pacific Theatre after Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
