HMAS Vendetta was part of the 'Scrap Iron Flottila' At the close of May she began a refit at Malta where she remained throughout June. Italy came into the war on 10 June 1940
Yep,
She was in dry dock on Malta, 50 miles and 15 minutes flying time from heavy Italian bombers based in Sicily. The Italians bombed hell out of Malta but with little impact apparently and their marksmanship was apparently lacking as they couldn't hit the Vendetta as she laid helpless in dry dock.
