Correct Sarn. Another fascinating Aussie.
Most of his inventions are hardly known as he worked with the british military and they kept everything to themselves.
Even tho the Victorian government gave him the first grant to develope the torpedo, the British refused to sell them his torpedoes to protect the harbour.
The only remaining torpedo is in a British museum. Also a photo of the helicopter he built.

Your question sir....

It's madam actually, lol. :)

During a significant event In Australian history a person shot an unarmed man and received an award for doing so. The shooting victim was charged with unlawful assembly and sentenced with imprisonment, he later died of his wounds.

Who was shot?
What was the 'event'?
What was the award for the shooter called?

:D

Edit: removed the 'icon' question because there is dispute about its origins and I don't know enough about it to know if it's true or not :)

Do you guys want some hints?

I might reword the question slightly

During a significant event In Australian history a person shot an unarmed man and received an award for doing so. The shooting victim was charged with unlawful assembly and sentenced with imprisonment. he later died of complications that were facilitated by his wounds and subsequent imprisonment.

Who was shot?
What was the 'event'?
What was the award for the shooter called?

Tommy Edwards. Fremantle 1919?

No sorry, earlier than that

I'll give a hint. It occurred on the same day as Australia's only recorded act of inland piracy. :)

That's a jewfish I caught in kakadu a few years ago - well strictly speaking it was caught near a reef just outside the river systems in van dieman gulf :)

So your question has to do with tge shearers strike and the 'Rodney'
We have had Rodney in questions before, but not this one.
More research required. :)

It was an event that occurred during the shearers strike. The burning of the rodney may have contributed to the shooters motivation (there is debate on that point though) but apart from that it has no relation to the event itself. :)
