Today mas market day in Cue. Mrs M made and bottled some leomon spread an loaded the car with a lot on odds and ends. Back in March I turned a couple of wooden bowls out of a fallen gum tree. I suggested she take those along as well.

Bowl.jpg

She sold them ok but she created another problem. I only made two bowls and she sold three. Guess what I'll be doing sometime this week

Today didn't quite go to plan. Mrs M decided she wanted some of those odd jobs knocked off. It started out with the replacement fire extinguisher that I've been promissing to mount on the laundry wall. Next were the three new shelves that she needed in the laundry cupboard.

Bags.jpg

Finally she needed that bag rack mounted. I never realised how badly she needed it 😂

I took a little time out to walk over to a mates minesite just to catch up. On the way back I spotted that bit of wood I need for the extra bowl that Mrs M sold at the market on Sunday.

Log.jpg

I really want whatever is hiding at the centre of that bundle of roots. Any suggestions on the easiest way to get it?

I did get a bit of time spent on the van.

Gas enclosure.jpg

It took me way too long to assemble an externally vented, internally sealed gas bottle chamber. It houses the 55L water tank as well and there's enough room to hide all the water and gas plumbing. A pinchweld seal will close off the rear of the cabinet when the door is closed.

Where do you get your energy Moneybox, I get tired reading about your daily achievements. 🤣

Tho get all that beautiful wood out first.

Well thay say "Behind every busy man there's woman with a whip" or something like that 😂

No seriously, I do try to avoid work where I can. Last week while in Perth I picked up a gift for the good wife.

Ozito.jpg

Out the front we have a very lush boganvillia that continually scrapes on the roof in weather like we have today. I thought if she got a new toy then the problem would be solved.

Boganvillia.jpg

Somehow it didn't work out like that. First the chain and bar had to be fitted and she claimed ignorance. Then it was a bit heavy so for safety sake I hacked into the shrub and soon had it down to size.

Unfortunately it didn't finish there. The offcuts were full of thorns and a couple of metres long so we loaded up the old Mercedes van and I headed for the tip.

Seat.jpg

It worked out in my faviour in the end. I spotted this Nissan Pathfinder bucket seat in nearly the same colour as the Hyundai. I'll remove the 1½ LH bucket seat and install this one on a turntable. I'll take this as my reward for cutting the boganvillia down :)

Looks like an old sheet compared to the others.

Yes it's a very fine weve cloth and waterproof which just means you have to punch a hole on the middle or risk a few thousand litres of water dropping in one big splash. I decided there was nothing to be done while the wind was up so I put my ear plugs in and went ahead cutting out the kitchen benchtop.

Bench top.jpg

I bought this 19mm structural ply from Bunnings along with some 6mm marine ply. The finish on the structural ply is just as good as the imported marine ply which has the flaws puttied up.

Well this is roughly where I'm headed. Nothing is fastened into place.

I'm held up now to some extent, waiting for my water pump and fittings. I'm going to be stalled waiting for things like hinges and hoses and many more things that I hadn't got around to ordering. I guess I can go ahead and do some electrical wiring and insulation.

It's times like this I wish I was better at putting the finishing touch on things. My jobs always work but rarely have that professional finish
Perhaps I'm just a little impatient, I just want to get done and get to work.

Lovin the bulid Phil, it late now but
May help anyone trying a build like yours or a 4b upgrade, mcnaughtans in Malaga sell a lot of gear which would suit your build, drawer slides latches hinges water tanks etc and priced better than the green and red, they don’t advertise prices, but google piranha Malaga
As they are affiliated and they prices are cheaper and based in the same warehouse?
But you need to quote the online prices.
Looking forward to seeing the finished project, your a jet on getting things done.

Thanks Hippyty, Yes I used to buy from Adlam Enterprises in Belmont, they later changed to UES. I have bought of McNaughtans as well but Bunnings is just so convenient ;). I decided against ball bearing drawer slides for that big drawer for two reasons. The first is that I'd have to order them and then wait a week or two for them to arrive but I don't expect this drawer to carry much weight or be moved an awful lot. The galvenised steel on hardwood slippers should work quite well and prevent the continual movement of a loose fitting drawer.

I do have one set of ball bearing, locking 600mm drawer slides that I bought about 10 years back for the Isuzu bus but never got around to using. They will be used for another drawer that will pull out from under the cooker. I'll attend to that tomorrow if all goes to plan.

I'm not the best at designing things. I tend to think them out as I go along. Yes I know "If you fail to plan, You plan to fail" 😂

No Moneybox, some people are just creative and everything falls into place as it’s supposed to. Yours is looking pretty damned awesome atm. Mine looks so basic next to yours.

I got a late start today because it dropped to 5°C overnight and stayed cold all morning. I got out of bed late and stayed inside until Mrs M left for work at 11am. It was still uncomfortably cold at that time so I took a trip down to the post office and got started after I had a bite of lunch.

The first thing I did was knock up the drawer and a housing for it. The locking roller slides seem to work well but they are extremely heavy.

With that job out of the way I remembered the wooden bowl that I have to make. I decided to take on that stump with the pick to clear some dirt and the old McCulloch chainsaw with its worn out bar and chain.

Stump.jpg

Of course I had to start by mixing fuel and getting it running. I hate little single cylinder engines without electric start but I just had to do a little well-overdue maintenance and she fired up. I didn't get far before derailing the chainsaw chain so I gave up and fitted the new bar and chain.

Block.jpg

I couldn't sink a new chain into that dirt so I cut a chunk from the other log that I used for the original bowls.

Bowl.jpg

It's starting to take shape but I ran out of daylight and the temperature started to drop again.

Bowl2.jpg

I'll have to finish it off in the morning because we only sold them for $80 each and they cost more that that in time but I enjoy making them.
