The loading ramp on the back of the trailer is quite big. Even though it's made of aluminium it still takes a bit of lifting. Mrs M has been saying for years "What happens when you get too old to lift that thing?"

Today was the day, it got too heavy so I fitted a couple of electric actuators.

They might be doing funeral arrangements.

No Mackka, we're still alive 😂

Merv and I have been over the hills and far away for a couple of weeks. The gold is getting harder to find every year so we go further for fewer and smaller however we are still trying. Merv's GPX6000 coil died a natural death as most do so he's been alternating between the GPZ7000 with the NF 12" coil and the SDC2300. My GPX6000 is as noisy as ever, perhaps I should swap to the DD coil to combat the EMI and damp soil but I don't like that coil so I tend to skip large tracts of soil where the detector is unworkable.

We came into town today to collect Merv's replacement coil sent 12 days ago from Bunbury. Don't you just love Australia Post

Good to hear that you are both ok. My comment was in relation to your mother in law as you said the funeral had to be delayed. Hope all is good.
I read the other day that a place in the NT had just received mail and Christmas Presents via Australia Post, but wet weather hampered the delivery, so they say. Cheers Mackka

Gold 5-4-23.jpg

Two weeks today. I need Mrs M to give me a hand but she's busy looking after the Cue Heritage Centre. I've found 165 pieces and the biggest is 4g but that seems to be the way things are going. Perhaps we'll move to better ground soon but where?

What’s happened to the dryblower operation? Mackka

Just parked up Mackka. Usually detecting is more enjoyable than scrapping up dirt and blowing it away. So far the detecting has not been too exciting due to the size of the gold but hopefully we'll get onto something better. Today I got 25 pieces for 2.42g. They all add up but it doesn't make for enjoyable prospecting.

I have six leases and all have gold but there's not enough time for me to see to them all so I'm just waiting for a POW (program of works) to come through and I'll sell one off. I also have the two with the deep mines that I might sell as well because I don't think I get to them before they run out of life.

Thanks for the update Moneybox and best wishes with the tecting and future sales of the leases. I don’t see too many people putting up photos or even talking about getting a couple of grams in a day on here but in your line of work , i dare say they are slim pickings. Hope the bigger ones are near. Cheers Mackka and keep the right side up.

Hu Phil, how come you never got back to me about catching up while I was in CUE

I replied to your PM on Wednesday at 6:21pm. Sorry I never got back to you sooner but I was well out of telephone range until Merv climbed a hill and got the message that his new coil had arrived then we tripped into town.

Stuffed coil.jpg

It's happened again. The third coil has died, it sounds like I'm in a cage full of budgerigars. I taped the cable to the shaft and tightened the screw to prevent it moving and managed to get through the day. I called the dealer but they sent the last one out so have no stock. I've managed to borrow a coil from a friend who is running the 12"x8" NF coils on both machines. That didn't work out too well for them. The NF coils were badly touch sensitive so NF have replaced one of them and I guess they'll get the other replaced as soon as the dealer has sufficient stock.

It's taken three weeks to hit the 2oz mark because it took 296 pieces to reach that weight. We're going to go looking for something bigger but it's hard to walk away from 3g a day. Merv's not done quite as well because he spent ten days waiting for his GPX6000 coil to be replaced. He's been averaging about 3g a day as well since he got the 6000 working again.

Who actually makes those Minelab coils?

I have no idea who makes them but it's like everything we see coming from Minelab in recent years. We are the test dummies. It seems like nothing is tested before it's sold. Merv had his coil replaced last week and I borrowed a coil from a friend who has changed both GPX6000's to NF coils because both of their Minelab coils failed and the replacements were likely to fail again.

Today I purchased a used GPX6000 mono coil from a member of this site. Hopefully it'll arrive during the next week but I won't hold my breath. Australia Post is not reliable but you never know, miracles do happen.

I sent the faulty coil to my dealer with Gary, our pommy tourist friend. It arrived yesterday but Minelab won't send a replacement until it's been tested. I'm hoping the dealer can confirm the fault but thankfully I have a plan "B" with the used coil.

Yesterday was my brother Merv's birthday and I came fully unprepared so I decided to bake a cake.

Well actually I had no eggs left since we've been four weeks in the bush so a damper had to do. He asked later "Where did you get the candle?", I had to admit it was just a match but it did the job 😅

Yeah Australia post need to pull their finger out ,I ordered a double cigarette socket with usb and voltage indicator from 5 suburbs away a week and half later it turned up ,but I ordered some fishing equipment from Florida U.S.A on a Friday night and it was at my door on the Monday afternoon,,

Ok, I might give up while I can. This computer has played up continually this morning, dropping dead or flipping back to the previous page.

My new LG computer is supposed to arrive at home tomorrow, that's the second one because the one lost by StarTrack/Australia Post has gone forever.

I'm on my way home and after a stop off to look into some problems at a minesite I should be back tomorrow afternoon :)
