Oh man. Were those marks in the picture internal flaws or surface ones?
Yeah it flawed right through ... But enough left for two five carat stones .
I've been getting designs now from one database that has about 4000 designs , my printer is working overload!

Easier to photo in the day.. 5carat a piece.

Nice one Barney :) What size did it finish at?

I've got a smokey amethyst about that size but it's cracked way worse than that one - a couple of very small stones it it apparently.
When you start digging into it those small stones , can be quite large . Just saw along viels or keep them included if not to drastic . Just remember you only need a piece slightly larger than you need to get the Finnished product . The little good bit is often deceiving .. As in might be a bit bigger than anticipated . Seems to get dwarfed by the scale of the stone . I've still got a lot to learn in this department ;) getting a stone on the dop can almost take me as long as to cut it...

Great work, must have taken years to get that good at cutting stones. Hopefully it is paying off for you now with the experience you have.

Barney won't blow his own trumpet, he should, less than a year ago he cut his first stone. I saw him agonising over it. :)

Ive still got my first stone in a box and occasionally pull it out to remind me where I started. After 35 years of faceting Im still getting better in different ways from new cuts to better polishing tecniques and designing new laps and cutting systems.Barney was where you are now a year ago, and look where he is now. Its a fun journey.

@ Rough2Cut: I like the hardware that you came up with. Might drop you a PM when time is right (I'm designing my own lapidary machine).
