Bloody hell RS, you're making it tough for the rest of us, I'm getting Small Nugget Syndrome watching your hauls come in
Picked these up today but today with the sdc, tough day though, lots of shot between gold, backs killing me.

Hahahaha Scrounger,

That's nice gold you have there! The SDC will make us fit or kill us!

I missed a GPX 4500 on ebay today. $3400 3 coils at Coffs Harbour. It was on gumtree and ebay. I rang the guy and he said someone had just "bought it" using buy it now on ebay. Sure enough I pressed refresh and it was gone........................

Cheers

RS

Yes, 4500 is next on my list but in no rush. Deeper gold means deeper holes to be dug and a couple of those from today were only about 7 inches deep but almost killed me the ground was that hard

Hay RS,
I was looking at that one as well. It didn't last long at that price. I should have bought it and worried about the finances afterwards.

Very close Wally. Good luck tomorrow mate. By the way, i think we may need to discuss how we're going to slow RS down. Perhaps some type of handicap system?

Thanks Scrounger, looking forward to it..........no need to hold RS back, I just need to pick up my game. :8

I have seen RS in action and he deserves every nugget he pulls out of the ground as NSW gold is hard won. He is a very fit man and when he says three days had him on the rails it will be because of the tonnes of lead Fuggets he is carrying around with him. Mind you, if I was a bit more competitive, a bit of cotton wool in his ears might be the go as he has those puppies tuned into the slightest warble. ;)

Pour him double nips of the JD I reckon, he'll be so crook in the morning he won't be able to get up....... Hmmm that's how you got me last time I'm sure mate....... :D Was pretty seedy that morning.

Hahaha - neither of us were at our best that day but walking around in uncontrollable circles seemed to come naturally to us both.

I'm proud of us both for actually being able to detect that day. :) Amazing how JD just evaporates the way it does, one minute it's there and the next it's errr ahhhmm hick errr gone........

Hey gents,

Trust me I m not that good! Just been scouring the old shallow diggings near creeks and putting in a lot of hours.

Each time I get out, I learn a new quirk with the SDC.

First thing, run the thing on 5 sensitivity and light up all the red leds on volume. I have sun ray pro headphones as recommended by Nenad. They just fit so snug they almost cut out all external noise.

This is what I discovered. Very very very very tiny pieces of gold will give a great signal when waved very very very slowly across the top of the coils hotspots. If you wave it at a normal speed, the SDC does not hear it at all.

Point being..............slow down your coil speed. Listen for that higher pitch repeatable signal. Get the coil on the soil, brush those rocks out of the way that don't allow the coil to be fully on the ground.

Good luck Wally, let us know how you get on.

Cheers

RS

Great advise Retirement. Thanks mate. Must checkout those headphones, I'm not impressed with the ones that come with the sdc.

Today myself and Keano hit up the gold fields and both managed to pull a few bits. Keano is new to detecting and got himself a SDC. I went out for some recon during the week and managed to pull one piece with the 14". After spending the day there I knew this place was prime SDC/small coil country and I knew there was yellow there for myself and Keano to clean out. I pulled these 6 bits with the 8" on the 45 and was very impressed with depth they were picked up at. Keano dug a kinder surprise piece of clay with his new machine that was smaller than a marble. We both spent the next 40 minutes pulling out what must have been 30 pieces of gold from the little ball of clay. Keanos 30 odd pieces totaled .33g. Was amazing that all these separate pieces of gold were in one clump of clay. Individually a lot of them were nowhere near detectable. Absolutely stoked for Keano finding some yellow on his first day out in the field. Well done mate!

I'm going to get a set of the Sun Ray golds, if not just for the built in limiter for the loud bits of junk sunbakers. They seem like excellent cans after doing some reading on them.

Hey Heatho,

The limiter switch seems to do nothing on mine or its just a SDC quirk with them.

The write up covers this by saying:....However the results of this will differ between detectors.

RS

Cheers RS, might need a really extra loud fast signal to get the limiter to kick in, anyway regardless of the limiter they look comfy, reduce the outside noise and get great reviews. Do you reckon they made a big difference for you?

The koss ones let through plenty of noise when it's really windy. Shauno was using Sennheisers last trip and was doing well with them, they kept the wind noise out also.

Yeah they are pretty good.

I tried the Koss ones for about 2 minutes then switched back.

On a windy day the Koss ones let the extra noise in and because I scrape the coil directly on the ground that noise is pretty loud in the Koss 30.

The threshold is erratic enough to concentrate on let alone adding more outside noises to the equation.

I don't think you would be disappointed with them. Made in the USA so good quality.
