Detecting on side of roads (NSW)?

Your images show an unused road enclosure. Where these fall within a larger rural property they are used by the landholder, mostly via a lease from the State govt. There has been a program in place where landholder can buy the road enclosures and a lot have done so. I wouldnt access them without...

    Rivers and Creeks

On the road yesterday and had lunch on this creek in the CW of NSW - Waugoola Creek just south of Woodstock. The area looks like it has potential (gold mining history, the right geology and lots of faults and shears). Did 6-8 pans and didnt raise a speck of colour. The wash carries very little...

    Rivers and Creeks

Good point. Some good habitat for them in this location, although the way I was stomping around there was Buckleys of me seeing one 😆. Lots of the creeks I've been in recently have really healthy insect populations including caddis, stonefly, mudeye, damselfly and mayfly.

    Rivers and Creeks

Out on the road on Friday and got the chance to run a few pans here. The creek has records of sapphire deposits but not at this location. I only gave it about 20min and didnt turn up a skerrick of a gemstone nor a flake of gold. Looks interesting though and worth more investigation. Sure beats...

    Rivers and Creeks

On a client's property yesterday which is right in the middle of a historic gold area. Two mint looking creeks running through it but the owner was only luke warm about me trying my luck. So after the job finished up I was able to get onto one of the creeks through public land. The area I could...

    Rivers and Creeks

I've not done any test panning in this creek yet. It's on the periphery of the known gold area so may or may not hold gold. Although another creek I've got access to is in the same category and it produces good quantities of gold.

    Rivers and Creeks

This one was a few weeks back. I was working so didnt get a chance to do any panning but I will be hitting the owner up.

    Rivers and Creeks

My backpack took the brunt of the impact which was good. I wont be spending too much time in that part of the creek as the amount gold didnt warrant the effort. I might head back there over summer when the water level is down and access is easier.

    Rivers and Creeks

This is one spot I visited on the weekend. Some gold but it was hard work. I managed to fall arse over head on the rocks too . Only damage was a sprained finger.

    Sieves

The sieves look good. Can you give a bit more info on the build?

    12" River Sluice

OK, headed to a new creek on private property on the weekend. Wasnt expecting much as its not in in the heart of the local mineralisation and I've never seen much said about it. I was expecting it to perform like other similar creeks in the area - tons of black sand but no gold. I pulled up on...

    Prospecting Log Book

I'm in the fortunate position of being self employed in a job with plenty of travel across southern NSW and I get to meet a lot of rural landholders. I always keep a pan, shovel and gumboots in the ute and pull up at likely spots on my travels. I'm thinking I need a diary/logbook/spreadsheet of...

    12" River Sluice

It went well. Two issues to fix - I need to get the remainder of the mould release off the mat, and I'm going to fit a classifying screen to draft out the larger rocks. The aim is to shovel straight into the sluice without classifying first. It does process a lot of pay dirt quickly. I didnt...

    NSW crown land boundaries?

This is QGIS with the Google Hybrid map base and the NSW property layer (orange) and lots layer (black). You can add the address and lot/DP labels too.

    NSW crown land boundaries?

If you're handy with QGIS you can add the NSW Base Layers to it. Use the QMS search tool and type NSW. It will bring up the NSW Base Layers. You can also add Lot and Property layers as rasters. Download from the Spatial Collaboration Portal -...

    Gumboots

Anybody got gumboot recommendations? I'm currently using basic Blundstones which are nearly buggered. They are fine but dont have a reinforced/penetration resistant sole so I can feel the shovel and sharp rocks through them. I'm thinking of replacing them with the same brand with a penetration...
