My dad asked me to help him his hearing aid that cost him over $ 5000. The end part broke of and got stuck in his ear. It's out of warranty. Retrieved part from ear and see the tiny little flimsy wires had snapped off in the socket behind the ear bud mounts. Can't believe how expensive such a cheaply made little thing is. Some ones making a killing out of them. Anyway looking for an alternative and recommendations from those hard of hearing folk out there ?

Yes they are expensive. Mine was on special from $6800 marked down to $6500. Blue toothable if you have an Iphone which I don't. I would be almost completely deaf without it though it is sn amazing little thing. My last one got fried as I was outside in misty rain....fizzzz $3500 gone it was 10 years old.
Makes you wonder if they are scamming you because they know you have to have it.
Some other tech like tv's sterio's mobiles cost a fraction of the price. You gotta wonder why.

Too right wishful the hard of hearing are getting ripped off in this country. I will ask some Korean colleagues to find a good set for my Dad. Might give up prospecting and go into hearing aid production :playful:

They told me that they recommend that you replace your hearing aids every 5 years...

Trying to make more money out of people...

Goody :)

My specialist suggested I have 2 aids. I don't have one in my right ear because it gets infected if I wear one in that one. He said Oh well can fit one in your right ear and see how you go with it and if you have trouble we will give you back your money you would be able to hear sooo much better..... Yeah right another $6500 Not Happening !

There is a company that makes one you can tune yourself which I find a very attractive option.

My wife has Kirklands brand from Costco and it's very good, got plenty of adjustments, cost about $2000.00, better than her previous ones which cost about $5000.00

So how do you go if something goes wrong with it which it will. I only need to travel 45 kays ( one way) to get mine looked at in an emergency or I can make an appointment in my home town if it's not urgent.
$2000 is heaps better though. What adjustments has it got ?

I have hearing aids in both ears,

Have a remote control to control the volume,

The best part is when my partner is carrying on I can click mute on the control

I have had bad hearing since being a child,

It has affected my voice,

Plus can not hear how words sound,

So can not spell a lot of words,

I use my mobile phone a lot of the times,

Because it gives me choice of words for me to use,

I miss a lot of conversation, but I get what is going on,

I don't where them as often as I should,

I having problems with every day sound's,

Have forgotten what they should sound like,

if that makes sense,

Goody :)

makes a lot of sense :Y:

The other thing is you really need to have a hearing test done so your hearing aid can be adjusted to your hearing range so going to Cosco although it sounds attractive is probably not a good option unless you can tune it yourself but even then you may not know what you can not hear that others with normal hearing can hear.
I have seen there is a section at Cosco for hearing aids and they may well do hearing tests there at time of fitting. But doing a 300 kay round trip to get it fixed would be my biggest worry with that.
Even $2000 is frightful to many people it's a damn disgrace.

As well as volume adjustment there are various programmes one being Telecoil , so when you are using your mobile phone it sends speech to both hearing aids. My wifes hearing aids are 2 years old now and no problems so far. i hope I have done this correctly.

my first set of hearing aids cost $11000 and when after the third visit telling them i couldnt hear properly was told me to just get used to them.
I currently use blamey saunders aids they are great i can adjust them on my computer or phone and they only cost $2500.
if i have a problem with them i just contact melbourne and they send a replacement, and i send the problem aid back in the same package usually next day delivery.
have heard costco aids are a fair price too

Pensioners get hearing aids for free

Think they replaces them every 5 years,

Plus a small annual fee ever year,

Goody :)
