My best mate passed away a few days after sending me this. This is from two scoops from a river crossing. I have a good rough idea where it is. Would this be a good indication of detectable gold being around? How would you hit this spot?

Sorry to hear about your mate, Nahor.

Unfortunately, fines like that tell you nothing about detectable-size gold or even proximity to the source, as a decent flood could carry those tiny particles kilometres downstream.

I reckon all you can do is work your way upstream from the crossing, sampling with the pan as you progress. If the fines peter out, you've passed the source. Backtrack to pick up fines again and then consider getting out of the creek bed in that area and sampling the creek banks and nearby hillsides, trying to find the direction the gold is eroding from before it ends up in the creek. With patience and luck you may be able to find a clear direction to the source reef. Good luck!
