in the orchard i worked at the owner put up lights ,the same ones at the gabba but not that many
one or two globes here and there , the concept was to have no shadows in the orchard and it works a treat
when i was there he had done the lychee part of the orchard
he had not got to the mangos by the time i left
 
We've got a little lemon tree growing in a wine barrel and I thought I'd send a photo of it in full production, people are blown away that such a small tree can produce so much fruit and it does it every year, I'll also put a photo of our dwarf lemon that's in the ground for comparison, the one in the barrel is called "Lots Of Lemons" clearly for good reason 20240531_140036.jpg20240531_151013.jpg

pak choi is almost ready
Grows pretty much all through the year. I used to sell boxes & boxes of them to an organic food retail shop.
One time i was a little slack and some of the leaves had insect bites in them. My appology & she said that`s OK it shows that no pesticides have been used.
 
A good insect repellent is basil and the lemon basil as a tea is remarkable.
Kale a biennial more of a spinach is great also.
 
I've been trying to get some Tasmanian 'pink eye' potato seeds into WA but can't because of quarantine restrictions.
I was given some this week through a friend of a friend.
The question is because it's illegal to import them, can i legally grow them??

I think that would be dependent on how you came to be in possession of the said seeds. If “ the friend” brought them onto the mainland and didn’t declare them at entry point or did you get them from a reliable source whom is a certified supplier seed supplier? Cheers Mackka

The Pak Choy look great. I love that stuff even the stems.
Tossing up putting things in where we are now. I did last two season's and I was watering every day and it drove me mad trying to keep up. North west kind of central Vic. Very dry and open to so much dry heat. It wasn't worth the effort and we could have got the things I grew cheaper at the grocery store.
But I like my chili plants so am putting a couple in big pots in semi shade. They just can't handle full sun where we are.
One very good trick I learnt. We grew them yr after yr and kept getting damn aphids all over them. Even the tomato plants. Tried this spray and that spray but I hate using strong chemicals. And even though I used them it didn't fully eradicate them and they kept multiplying soon after.
Then "bingo". Told about using iso alcohol mixed 70/30. 70 iso, 30 distilled water. Put it in a $5 trigger spray from mitre 10 and saturate them. It doesn't affect the plant. What happens is, the iso on the body of the aphids as it dries out super quick as iso does, sucks out the moisture from the aphids body and kills them instantly. Its amazing. It beat every spray I tried from oil ones and everything. You can get a 5 litre iso from mitre 10 for about $65 distilled water from coles for a couple of bucks a litre.
Basically you can make an aphid destroyer spray for a fraction of the cost of the commercial spray cans. Apply in the evening or whenever the sun is not on the plants, any plants, and its dried within no time. All that may stay for a bit longer is the distilled water.
Its amazing. Chemical free. And hey the same mix is the same as iso hand sanitiser without the fragrance. Kills everything even covid on your hands. I carry a small bottle in my detector bag for cuts and disinfecting my hands when I have my lunch out bush.
