To combat the legginess try a light ballast and start low, slowly raising. You probably need add a little fan breeze once they get past the intial seed leaves and start to consolidate. Natures way of survival of the fittest.

Just fold up some old aluminum and insulate your connection for the lights, and for the fan I use a dc input desktop computer or dc fridge fan, wired to a mains dc convertor, can switch input to control fan speed. Airflow resistance will depend on what you have planted, and it doesnt need to be constant across 24 hours.

That way they will push to add proper sustained cellular growth (woody) to the sidewalls of the stem in favour of the stretch, and not stretch for the light source to far way with the concentrated output direction of the ballast. Need "darker" and "lighter" areas in your box.. Should solve the problem.

They go leggy as they rapidly add height to reach the light with the sidewall growth gets too accelerated, and as the bonds are weak they topple.

Increase the speed during hardening once they they leave the box and they will survive a hurricane.

Hard to retify legginess after the fact. Hopefully that helps, not that I claim any commercial expertise.

Thanks for that info GT, I can't actually have to much wind/air speed because from what I can tell is happening with fan speed flat out is..
It rips the moisture off the top of the soil increasing humidity at a rate the De-humidifier can only just deal with.
Fan speed also rips to much heat off the heat matt and sensor so it throws all the setting out to much.
Opening the intake valve that's on the back of the fan to bring new air in(c02) changes everything to.
Changes have to be very subtle..

The guage/sensor top right is a back up humidity and upper atmospheric (lol) air temp sensor.
The square shape of the hab creates dead zones of air rotation, the readings are allways different from the lower atmosphere lol

Well I was too slow with shifting the strawberry patch over to the other bed.... it's flowering now so will have to stay put this year.
Case of low energy still after being sick in February.

Wow! Awesome going there Silver. Everything is looking great. Never heard of that pudding tree before
What is it and how is it used.
It's called a Black Sapote Hard Luck, it's in the persimmon family. Like chocolate pudding inside when it's ripe... to soft to transport once it's ripe, so you don't usually see them in the shops.

Thanks silver.
looked them up. Pretty interesting plant. :Y:

Started the experiment to grow tropical things in a cold climate. Have to sprout some tropical things first though. Here are some red pawpaw seeds growing near the fire and a spoon plant ;) . The clear plastic is a food cover from cheap as chips ( like crazy clarks) they fit over large pots perfectly to make a little greenhouse.

I once tried oil in one of those outdoor bamboo candles with the tin and wick... not sure if it was olive oil or vegetable oil, but it would not light at all..... so of course I put it into the bbq fire to heat it up ( bamboo, can full of oil n all).
Eventually the oil must have boiled and become volotile as it exited the open end of the can.... there was no retrieving it at all as there was a full on bbq flame going on about four feet high and huge amount of fire... lasted for ages too lol. At least it coudnt blow up :D

Interesting, so you invented a vegetable oil powered flame thrower :Y: or otherwise known as, Silvers eco roaster :playful: the candle wick is still burning. And this is the oil I used. So that's about 13hrs.

You'll still need some airflow at the base of your cloche so the flame doesn't suffocate, but the trapped warm air should do wonders
(Tropical winter) :p

I can't believe how good that tomato in the plum tree is pumping.
