Trilobite App

Hi all,

I have had the Trilobite - Australian Geology Travel Maps app in my phone for ages. I baulked at it because it requires a subscription to use. I saw it mentioned in another thread which made me think to revisit it.

Is the app useful and worth paying for?

very useful, it has all the Aussie states and NZ as well, yes the yearly sub is very cheap and it lest you use all the various maps in that for the price, if yo want to use the mining tenements then each state is a separate extra charge still very cheap,

We mostly use it in WA when we go there for detecting and it is excellent, it has info about any mining and or exploration lease and the various maps like Geo and topo and mineral deposits etc etc even pastoral lease boundaries

you can mark you finds and leave your trails on it as well, this is a screen shot as an example, this is zoomed right in, if zoomed out you will see the leases and or the Geo map

Totally agree with Dave, I find it a must have in the West so I don't accidentally stray off ground I can legally detect on and end up where I shouldn't be. And if your driving to new hard to get to areas, you can follow your tracks out so you won't get lost.

If your talking about Trilobite that we use, it is Satellite, so what shows on the map your using is yours and only if you share it with them can they have access to it.

Thank you for replying. I might give it a go. I only wanted gps just incase I got lost but it’d be really useful to be able to save favourite spots

I have used Trilobite since it came out and mark all my locations ( mines / areas of interest /roads/ gold locations / parking spots etc ) on the app by cross referencing against info and maps on my pc and drive as close to the spot as i can and then turn on the tracking function on the app which draws a line as i drive and takes me to the spots i want to go to. I also enter extra data related to those spots when i create a pin on the map on the app.

No worries. Just make sure you have all the location services turned on on your phone. For whatever reason , mine had a couple of location settings switched off few weeks ago and took a while to find the right setting on the iphone for it to work again. It may have been a software update that changed it on me. It was frustrating because i was in hill country in deep forest on crappy roads and the road signs were few and far between with little mobile reception,which is the beauty of this app. It doesn`t need mobile coverage to work.

I don't know what "Trails" you mark before you go there??? all the trails I mark on mine are when we are there going to and from a patch and the yellow dots are nuggets

If you go to the trilobite website there is instructions to import trails into the phone app that you have made in google earth, you can also mark your 40e graticles and import them into the app to keep you from stepping the line.

Yep, we mostly only export the trails and waypoints to Google Earth, rarely bring them back into Trilobite, and yes when sending back the reports for a 40e use the graticular blocks with the waypoints for the reports

It's a great system and we use it heaps

It’s mainly used for track you can see on google earth, but don’t show up on topo maps.

Good info here in these comments. I have had great use of the trilobite app but am having a lot of trouble downloading the pastoral lease data. Any suggestions about this people?

1. Open app
2. Click manage downloads (top Right)
3. Scroll down to WA data layers (list)
4. Scroll down to WA pastoral leases
5.once downloaded you will find it in the drop down box that's below the box you choose maps, terrain, satelites etc.
6. Click the WA pastoral leases in there and you are done
