Oh well ... it was good while it lasted ;)

I agree jeff, still there is some good info here,Aye

John

Yes I agree, Mbasko is pretty much always spot on with the info he gives. Just my opinion of course. If it's needed to know what's trendy I can ask a Latt sipping prospector from the Lower North Shore of Sydney what they would prefer, lol. :D

Not quite sure that was a relevant comment there Heatho. Not what I expected from a forum veteran....but guess that's why so many newer members are coming up with the impression of a "Boys Club" stigma. Not the forum I once thought it was. :(

I had heard good things about this forum and there is a wealth of information in the older threads but since I have joined there does look like its a bit of a "boys club" forum, much like many others where the few long time members air their problems with each other publicly ruining otherwise great threads.. thats what private messages are for ...anyway I dont have the knowledge most of you have when it comes to prospecting and therefore cant really contribute to the knowledge bank so am going to go back to being a silent lurker reading the old threads where it doesnt sound so much like high school girls bitchin

Wal, You put in a massive effort to Document your many Travels and That's A Treasure in It's Self, The Effort you and Liz put In is inspirational to us All and I Thank You For That,

There Is A Boy's Club Here and I don't Like having to fend off Peoples Smart **** Comments Because I Won't Buy a Certain Brand or when I have done found that they have Not been Quite as Successful as Others and In the End have to Defend Myself while still trying to remain on topic with Limited Success,
In the Process receiving PM's asking me not to make personal Attacks when that was Not the Case, Because I had not mentioned Anyone until provoked and even then my comments were dismissive.

Trying to Add useful Info here is hard work, Because detecting In Australia not only has some Adverse conditions but the Weather has to come in to Account, Only in recent years have machines that can be fine tuned to suit such conditions, Gone are the days of fixing things with Bailing Wire and A Shifter and making do,

So many see Other Brands as A Threat instead of A Bonus and That creates the Boys Club Atmosphere, Some One Makes A Smart **** Comment and there's a Scrum To Hit the Like Button, Hence the Holden V's Ford Reference's, What so many people seem to miss is that Detecting is not about the Brand, It is About the Finds and the process and the Skill Involved and the Knowledge gained
over the years.

If you want Depth Buy A Minelab, If you want A machine that runs in High EMI area's Buy A White's, If you want to find the Smallest Gold Buy A Fisher, If you don't like Menu's Buy Fisher or Whites, If you want the Machine to Take Care of the Tracking ETC then Buy A Minelab, The Sooner people realise This and forget the Holden V's Ford Rubbish The Better off the Forum will Be, But Most of All The More Gold/Finds will Go In Their Pockets.
Brand Snobbery Is Destroying this Forum and Some Comments here have shown that, this is not the place for Bailing Wire and Shifter Type Thinking where Technology and Resourcefulness is the Key to Success,

None of the Above companies make the perfect Detector, A few Quote that now and Again But even more don't believe it, Even to the point of machines with Multiple Design Faults people will still recommend them to Newbie's because of brand Loyalty which the adds to the cost of the Machine with Repairs and Freight etc Not to mention time lost because of being without A Machine And In Australia that can turn into Weeks because of the Distance Factors,

I think the goal should be to help others Avoid the above issue's because most people are just happy to be out there with their Families and friends and not have to Cut the Trip short because of malfunctions etc, 6 hours driving and money spent on food fuel and not forgetting that this could be A persons yearly Holidays that End over something so small,
Car dealers have a bad REP but some detector's have the same Issue and some people are still eager to recommend such products because of Brand Loyalty, How is that any Different to Car Dealers when A Person is going to be stuck out in the Bush with A Machine/Car that don't work, Something is Definitely Wrong with that Level Of Thinking

MBASKO, Sorry if My Reply's to Your Comments were A Little Harsh,

John

Fair go Wal, that was my sense of humour not a petty jibe at anyone in particular, I actually live near the North Shore (Northern Beaches) and take that comment back if anyone took offence, should have said Chai Soy Latt and if you have seen the type of sippers I'm talking of you may have gotten the joke referring to the thread title. There was no specific or personal offence meant to any member.

Though my comment regarding Matt and his excellent info I will not retract as he always gives great info and is very helpfull to newbies, which I try to be also.

I still think the "boys club"reference is a little vague and unfair as there are a lot of people here who meet up and get together occasionally for a swing not just the NSW guys but lots in every state, I'm starting to think some people think it is wrong to make friends?? There are 5000 members here and it's great there are groups who meet up and the forum has brought them together........ Some outings are specifically setup for helping newbies such as the Hill End trips which anyone here can attend not just a select group of "boys", I'm actually going to take a newbie out in a few weeks and do everything I can to get him onto his first nug as he is having a bit of difficulty.

We are mostly Aussies here and a bit rough around the edges. I honestly can't believe people will lose the plot (not referring to you Wal) over a few maybe misplaced or misalligned words in a sentence.

Maybe the like button should be removed to save people from having their feelings hurt? I don't know, I may refrain from using it from now on.

I apologise unreservedly to any member I have offended and will say again it was not a personal attack.

I disagree Wal about it not being the same forum, it is to me. With so many members there is bound to be a little friction occasionally, also it takes a decent person to admit when they are wrong and to appologise, which most people here are very decent and generally do apologise if things go to far.

No need to close the thread either, maybe it needs a trim but I think we are all back on track hopefully.

The "thrill" of detecting should always be the main priority, and much thought should go into the best tools for any trade or hobby. Just always be mindful that with the best tools comes the best results, and sometimes the cheapest tools can get you started, but will cost you more dollars in the long run. ;)

This comment Wal I agree with 100%, these comments are the reason people ask and is generally what they want to hear.

Are you blokes/ladies telling me we are all not going to get along and agree with everything written?

Who would have thought! Ps that's my sarcastic sense of humour!

I started here to learn. Graduated to be able to offer some basic advice. Have met some great people due to the forum. Learnt **** loads from the experienced people. Had a bit of fun with scammers that enter the site. Bring back Lucky Streak I say

There are some members posts that I just click with and I d say it has to do with similar sense of humour? Certainly no boys club. There are groups that will naturally form, but that's society, human nature.

I find that I use the like button more on people that I agree with most, but hey that's what its for.

A great forum that has plenty to offer!

I have distanced myself from much of the forum politics and to a degree limited my personal input to topics, which to many will be evident. I spend the little time i assign to the forum sitting on the fence, which is something I was against some time back.

Not trying to signal out any particular negativity or conflict, or animosity, but looking at some threads and topics, many opinions would be best kept to oneself or at least thought about for a short time before being expressed. I know it's not always easy, and spur of the moment comments can quite often be misinterpreted in a negative way, though not meant to be delivered in that context..."been guilty of it myself".

The like button, in my opinion, has absolutely nothing to do with a "Boys Club" syndrome, and is a great appreciation feature worthy of maintaining. I don't want to go into detail or elaborate on my opinions re "Boys Club" Syndrome, as it's not on topic here, and as such has no place hijacking a thread of importance to the member putting it up.

Have a great day guys.

Wal.

A few comments have been taken to heart as personal attacks when they were actually said in jest and probably taken out of context (please note emoticons), so I suggest people sit back, take a breather, and just stick to the topic - we want useful info, not pages of banter.

Just because one or two members prefer a certain brand of detector does not insinuate a "boys club", they are simply stating their opinions and providing reasons for doing so, based on personal experience.

We all have our favourite brands and models, and will be biased to a degree, if it works for you then fine, but it may not necessarily suit someone else.

Everyone's opinion is valued here, regardless of experience or brand used, and that should be respected. :)

In the early 2000s we saw many Trends from machines with multi frequencies that gave Massive Depth on the Beach along with Unrivalled Discrimination and those Machines Gave us detectors that were ergonomic designs yet some of them stuck with the more familiar format using this modern Technology, These New machines cut out all the Machine Gun type signals that came from Iron Infested sites which in turn made A Days Detecting Less traumatic on the Ears,

For the past few years People have been asking for more Hybrid Type Machines that range form Multi Tasking to Multi Terrain with machines that can and do go from Rocky out Crops to being totally submersible, These newer machines even go as far as using things like Self Powered Coils, Head Phones, even going as far as having remote controls, Then we have seen the Trend since the introduction of one of the XP Machines That more and more manufacturers are Creating High Powered Collapsible machines that are not only of A Compact Design, But they Are Totally Waterproof Too, Ever Since the Introduction of Modern ABS Plastics,

Now These Modern Marvels are being Jam Packed with NASA based Technologies such as GPS software and GPS Mapping, Many other manufacturers have yet to release their Latest Offering but only time will Tell, What is next on the Horizon?? Sonar Type Mapping that displays the Item in the Ground in real time Who Knows, But one thing for sure it is going to have to be something Pretty Special to Top the Machines we have At Present,
