the EC munches the coins, it only takes about 10-20 seconds to ruin a copper coin, i found that out!

The patina is only there from oxidation, once you take it off and go right to the metal again, they don't look pretty in the right way anymore, the old king looks like he had small pox now (should be worth more money not less), found out the charger stops for a rest when it gets hot, then restarts by itself if left on, so no chance of over heating a coin, and more salt = more bubles, so I might play with my salt levels too.

Forgot to mention this old find today ,... I had it soaking in water.
Gave it a quick brushing off.

All excited, A Lesney with a plastic insert.

Everything in the right spot.

Got all four wheels in place.

Thanks fellas, cleaned up the specimen(ha) a bit, but put it back in the S&V as it's very slow going with this one.
Here's a progressive photo.

At least we know it's a 49 now.

Just a mark up the top just under, and between, the R&A of AUSTRALIA that must have happened before it found its resting place.

After numptys suggestion in post #1524 to use the brass wire brush on em(the two damaged coins experimented on using EC) I did the deed.
Heres the two coins I am referring too.

And here they are after that bout of electrolysis.

next two photos are closeups of how they were.

Well here they are now.
That's what a soft brass wire brush does when you use it to help clean a silver coin.

Note how it really rips in.

Here I used BP to finish the cleaning of the upper half so we can copare the difference.

Note that he still looks like he's had small pox(just that he survived it).

This side I thought I'd just use bicarb on, just in case I ever want to admire it slightly one day.(ha)

And the other one ,... well let's just use it as a good example to never, ever, EVER EVER use a soft brass wire brush on silver. :lol:

Sumation:- Using a wire brush in the pursuit of cleaning silver coins is a NO NO !

DOH i dont think ECing them is a good idea!, i used the soft brass brush to clean coins after i soaked them in olive oil or CAB them not after ECing them :8 .
