I wish I could tell you that the stones might be diamonds or similar 8.( but no one usually puts diamonds in/on a .925 Silver ring.

But saying that still a very nice find :p which will motivate you to go again and again hoping for similar or much better.

I came in a bit late on this bit of the thread. GP is right, reducing carbs is the key. I have lost 40kg over the last 5 years, and while I go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week and lift weights, I reckon it is 80% what you eat.

I eat eggs for breakfast every day and the rest of my diet is generally meat, fish, chicken, green veg and salads. I only eat 60-80 g of carbs a day, and most of them are incidental ones in my dairy, veg and salads. I'm very strict because I have bad diabetes, and the only alternative to the diet and exercise is insulin, which I don't want to do. I basically eat very little or no pasta, rice, potatoes, bread and other bulk carbs, and definitely no sugar and hardly any fruit.

If you eat low carb, you do need to eat enough fat, and vegetable oils, other than olive, won't cut the mustard. Eat the fat off your steak and chops, and use butter, lard, dripping and coconut oil for cooking.

Its a bit hard if you have to eat some fast food, say if you are on the road for work. At mackas I have one of those wraps for breakfast, or lunch one of those make your own burgers, with no chips or soft drink. A quarter pounder is about 35g of carbs, so one a day is OK.

I reckon that GP's advice is right on the money in terms of keeping the weight off. On my diet I can eat big steaks and don't get hungry and have cravings like people get on low fat diets.

Good on you Silver, losing the initial weight isn't usually the hardest part of the deal, it's keeping the weight off long term that is a real struggle for many, including myself. I find the key to losing weight without a hell of a lot of exercise is to simply eat less. We are conditioned to eat 3 square meals a day, when our bodies don't really require so many kilojoules to sustain a healthy weight, especially when many of us live a relatively sedentary lifestyle. Marketing to the consumer has a lot to blame for this, and it's no coincidence that dinner plates have increased in size over the years.

I am by no means skinny, though I have found having a decent breakfast and nightime meal usually negates the real requirement for a hefty luch, if one at all. Either that or plan smaller meals/snacks spread out through the day. Gradually your stomach will become used to smaller portion sizes, and you will condition yourself to finish eating before you actually feel full - you know that bloated feeling after going for seconds. ;)

Cut out carbs and sugar, and eat more proteins/veg. Replace sugar with natural sweeteners (like Natvia), these have only a portion of the kilojoules that sugar has per teaspoon, tastes just like sugar, and can also be used in cooking. Probably one of the biggest issues is the slowing down of your metabolism as you mature, and the less complex carbs and sugars you stuff into your body, the easier it will be for your body to burn off any excess weight, rather than constantly adding to it.

The other big danger that you want to avoid at all costs, and good incentive for losing weight, is type 2 diabetes. I should know, as I am unfortunate to have been diagnosed a few years ago with it, and it is prevalent in my family history. :|

Nice score on the ring nucopia ! :p

No probs, Silver. If you just want to lose weight, aim for 100 to 120 g of carbs a day, remember that, for example bread is about 50% carbs, so measure the actual carbs, not the overall weight of the starchy food. Don't forget the carbs in beer if you like a few! I have cut down on beer a lot, as well as red wine, which I love. I'm currently mainly drinking spirits with soda, or the odd martini, which I have developed a taste for.

Good luck with it, The main thing is consistency, but don't beat yourself up and give up if you slip once in awhile.
