Good on you Silver, losing the initial weight isn't usually the hardest part of the deal, it's keeping the weight off long term that is a real struggle for many, including myself. I find the key to losing weight without a hell of a lot of exercise is to simply eat less. We are conditioned to eat 3 square meals a day, when our bodies don't really require so many kilojoules to sustain a healthy weight, especially when many of us live a relatively sedentary lifestyle. Marketing to the consumer has a lot to blame for this, and it's no coincidence that dinner plates have increased in size over the years.
I am by no means skinny, though I have found having a decent breakfast and nightime meal usually negates the real requirement for a hefty luch, if one at all. Either that or plan smaller meals/snacks spread out through the day. Gradually your stomach will become used to smaller portion sizes, and you will condition yourself to finish eating before you actually feel full - you know that bloated feeling after going for seconds.
Cut out carbs and sugar, and eat more proteins/veg. Replace sugar with natural sweeteners (like Natvia), these have only a portion of the kilojoules that sugar has per teaspoon, tastes just like sugar, and can also be used in cooking. Probably one of the biggest issues is the slowing down of your metabolism as you mature, and the less complex carbs and sugars you stuff into your body, the easier it will be for your body to burn off any excess weight, rather than constantly adding to it.
The other big danger that you want to avoid at all costs, and good incentive for losing weight, is type 2 diabetes. I should know, as I am unfortunate to have been diagnosed a few years ago with it, and it is prevalent in my family history. :|
