Is there a gum tree near by? As kids down in Cooma NSW we used to see them in the gum trees. Still don't know what they are!Don't have a clue what these are. Glad I didn't accidentally step on them.
We used to call them spitfires in tassie when i was growing up too, yes in gum treesDon't have a clue what these are. Glad I didn't accidentally step on them.
I believe the local kids in Exmouth were putting “double-gee” (aka “3 corner jacks”) prickles into matchboxes on some cotton wool, and selling them at $25 each, as “Thorny Devil eggs”, to some of the Yanks stationed nearby. They were being picked up by the customs & border protection folk.
Its the best camping prospecting and wild life love itI thought I would start a thread where we can show pics of native animals that we might see when out in the field, detecting, panning, fossicking etc. Occasionally I come across something that stops me in my tracks, and I have to put the detector down and get my old flip phone out and take a photo if I'm quick enough.
I'll start with this lizard that I saw today in Kingower Vic. Not sure if it's a Shingle Back, Maybe Nightjar will know. Anyway, he wasn't in any hurry to be anywhere and was happy to oblige while I hunted around in my back pocket for my phone.
I didn't find any gold, but this little guy put a smile on my face
