I also finished off some magnet wands to remove black sands.

I didn't have any black sands at work, so I tested them using paper clips. Works well, and drops cleanly when spring is released.

Mackka. You push down on the punger to get the magnet closer to the end to pick up the black sand and when you release the plunger the magnet is retracted and the black sands drop off.

I added a couple washers to help guide it up and down and keep the magnet centre. Probably not necessary but works.

Sure are mate. Forget about ferrite magnets. Need to be neodymium magnets.

I only had a 25 x 5mm lying around. Still works but a 10mm thick magnet like BigWave used would be the ticket.

I had it lying around. I was using it in a fish tank to hold a rack on the glass. I'm pretty sure back then I got it from jaycar as I was desperate for it at the time. You can get them cheaper online if you are willing to wait for it though.

This is the one I got. Has a hole in the middle to screw mount if needed. From what I remember I got this one because for some reason it felt stronger than the solid one they sold....
