At about 8.30 this morning, had the work truck parked on the highway when an erderly couple towing a caravan stopped me and told me there's been a truck rollover 10km up the road.

My first question was is the driver ok?...yes we think, is their answer.

Has anybody called emergency services?....we don't know.

So off I go headed for the spot after getting through to emergency services.

10ish kms later , carnage.

There's a semi trailer , double decker , fully loaded with sheep flipped on the road , and a very lucky semi driver walking around dazed.

Another farmer was there and he was in a state of confusion also.

I did a quick take on the lucky to be alive driver , he was obviously in shock but his mind was on his sheep. I figured don't stop him now , the ambos will be here in 30 mins , let the driver think about the sheep.

It was awful seeing that number of animals suffer to that degree.

By the end of today we had disposed of 116 sheep. Those not already dead had to put down after the vet pointed her finger at them. Over a quarter of the total load. The truck and trailer a complete write off but at least the driver was alive even though it was a very expensive day for him.

Sheesh. What a needlesss waste of life.

Any other vehicles involved? Did something on the truck fail? Did the Driver fall asleep/swerve to avoid someting? WTF caused it?

Rarely does something like this happen without the driver having some part in it.

No other vehicles involved.

He was approaching a T intersection. Not sure if it was at speed but I've heard trailers that have an air bag system which helps with trailer roll , could have failed. They've been known to inflate on the wrong side before. Then if all the sheep weight loaded up on 1 side it could flip the trailer.

Very sad. Don't underestimate the effect it may have had, or might have on you.
If it makes you feel better to talk to someone, then find someone who wants to listen, and spill ya guts!

Cheers , Dave.

Nasty scene up, glad the driver was ok and hopefully the cause is sorted out soon.

They looked like healthy ewes, possibly in lamb.

A big loss to all concerned and the cotton wool puffs scattered everywhere, do nothing to soften the blow :(
