My Uncle Jack (shares a room with my dad at a local retirement facility) passed away early Boxing Day morning.
I got home just in time to watch the start of the race. Wild Oats XI or Comanche were expected to battle for the honour of being the first out of the harbour.
But they were beaten by Blackjack. :Y:

Also heard today there might be a protest against Wild Oats XI. They apparently had their beacon (used to keep track of the yachts whereabouts) turned off for the entire race. I heard mention that this is a rule infringement.

If their beacon was off, how did the online yacht tracker application keep track of every movement of every yacht? Is there another parrallel system used and if so why doesn't that suffice to comply with the tracking rules? I used the online tracker program throughout the race to see who was where, so shouldn't that be ok?

Seems a bit like there is belt and braces in place and if one fails and the other one is still working then that should be ok.
