Goldie rush - a decent haul to send to the bank Sinhof (or under the pillow)! An open screen is not so bad once your ears get used to it. That's how I used to run with both the Explorer and Etrac to get past the issue of recovery speed/continual nulling over junk and iron. Everyone has different preference, I'm sure Heatho would do it completely different to me again. :)

Hi Sandta & Goldpick,
Had a dream run over the last three days, Goldies totalled up to $103, that will keep the cruiser tanks topped up for a while; looks like the rain is here for the next few days so I will spend some time in the workshop and design and build a new narrow digging tool to minimise ground disturbance,I've tried a screwdriver type probe/digger but I find on most occasions that it's not really effective, might be the method used, so will make a hand tool about 20mm wide for those targets that are down to about 75mm.
The 3030 is a great little machine and the more I use it the more I like it, I'm starting to get a little more adventurous with settings and discrimination patterns and the numbers are starting to make some sense in terms of number target relationship, it will be good to get it back in action on the goldfields in a couple of weeks and onto some of the "old timer's hang-outs" that I've located.
In the mean time I'm having a ton of fun on the beaches and parks, it's a top way to fill in the gaps between gold detecting trips.
Cheers,SinHof.

G'Day Heatho,
Yes mate its been a rewarding few days on these new locations, the last one seems to have stacks of targets, with an open discrimination pattern the 3030 goes ballistic with multiple targets under the coil; I'm wondering if the smaller coil for the 3030 might be worth purchasing and opening up the discrimination pattern and spend more time there and see what turns up, the 1938 penny was down about 100mm.
Have you had any experience with other coils on your 3030?
Cheers, SinHof.

No mate I haven't tried any others yet, will soon though. In high target density a small coil should sort them out and make hunting quite a bit easier I would think. Wonder what the better coil is? Coiltek or Minelab??

Evening Heatho,
Had a chat to Owen out at CWPS and he seemed to think the Coiltek 5x10 would be the better coil but my thoughts are that it is still a bit on the large size, the ML 6 inch would be a better bet for high target concentration areas, it's also about $50 less expensive.

Heatho, the links above may provide some insight into the value of the Coiltek 10x5 coil, have a look and see what you think, I shall see if I can dig up some comparisons with the ML 6 inch and flick the links down to you.
There may be forum members here that have said coils and if they should read this post they may like to offer there experience/s with the coils.
Cheers, SinHof.

I like that video on the 10x5, goes to show that you can really get it in amongst the junk and get those high tone targets no worries. It's also a good vid as it show's the CTX is not as slow recovering from detecting targets as some people say it is, lol. I's actuaqlly quite fast, which is what I usually find. Myth busted. :)

While it's not a very good comparison, I have a coiltek 10x5 (terracotta) that I have for the e-trac. It is brilliant. I think it's way better than the minelab 8 inch FBS I have as well. If the black coiltek 10x5 for the CTX is as good as the older terracotta version for the older FBS detectors, then it is going to be a winner for sure.

Hi Pprogers,
Thanks for your comments on the 5x10 Coiltek coil, there seems to be a fair amount of positive comment and Utube vids also indicating they are an effective coil in high trash areas, H'mmmmm! will have to save up on the finds and look to purchase one.

Hi Folks,
Great weather over the weekend; the better half was away for the two days so it was a clear run for two solid days of swinging around a number of different locations about town, while there were no stand-out locations, find wise most gave up some finds in one form or another.
A couple of 295 rings, a 1948 roo penny and a Masters Games badge were interesting finds along with decimal goldies, 50 cents and BB's plus the ever present junk targets, in all an enjoyable couple of days hunting.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the positive comments,The 3030 and self are starting to work well together, next phase is to open up the discrimination and start training my ears to separate out the different target tones,I would imagine there could be some pre-decimal coins in the areas I've been working but due to the tight goldie pattern I have been missing them; the learning curve is still climbing.
Cheers all, SinHof.

an open screen turns good signals into screamers, iffys into clear signals, and nulled signals into iffys :) I love using fulltones with just 1 point of descrim.

Hi All,
Had an interesting late afternoon swing just down the road from home, I was quietly swinging along and keeping a focused eye on the ground and on the coil and the area immediately in front of me when seemingly out of nowhere a pair of feet appeared in black socks, looking up and surprised, revealed a young kid looking a bit like Ginger Megs."What are you doing Mr"? "um looking for coins I replied", "can I watch"? This little guy stuck to me like a shadow, keen as, to look at the screen on the 3030. Twenty minutes on and finally a good sounding target, " this sounds like money I commented", a bit of a dig and out popped a $2 goldie; "there you go young bloke you can have that for being a go little fellow and not getting in the way and helping me find these targets".
To say the least the little guy was stoked, to add to his excitement we advanced another few metres and he shouted "there's money" and picked up a 20 cent sun baker, to say he headed off home a happy little chappy would be an understatement, he must have been all of about seven or eight years of age and lived just along from the park.
The above story is part one of the interesting afternoon, not long after the young bloke headed home a vehicle pulled up near where I was working and a chap approached me, "I'm thinking this might be the young blokes father wanting to know the story on how his son came home with some unexplained dollars".
Not so, it appears a lady had lost a very expensive diamond encrusted ear ring at the weekend in the area I was swinging over and the chap added that half the street in the general area was out looking for said ear ring; apparently someone suggested you need to enlist the services of someone with a metal detector to help locate the expensive ear ring. The chap went on to say that he thought I must have been conscripted to help locate the item, I explained that I was there by chance and had no knowledge of the lost item but would certainly keep an ear/eye out as I covered the surrounding ground; it was not long after that the pin pointer packed it in, flat battery and it was almost dark; tomorrow is another day and it will be interesting to see what turns up.
There is a whole lot more to this interesting hobby apart from the great targets we unearth and the people young and old along we encounter along the way, bloody fabulous.
Cheers, SinHof.
