Another morning of park detecting with my buddy ... Here's today's haul

$9.70 and some jewelry amongst the junk targets

Another lesson and an enjoyable morning ;)

No unfortunately it's a child's ring - plated - but my first ring!

And both earrings which I thought was unusual

Ok - another Saturday morning park run - Sa bogan and I started early (gonna be 30 degrees today) and here is the haul...

It was definitely Moking weather so we cruised the burbs and had a great time!

Looks like your getting the hang of it now Paulmar...some great finds there..my son has a Garret Ace 250 and he was saying when he gets good target signals like a $1 or $2 he watches to see if it stays constant or if it goes to foil and that normally indicates junk..he was also pulling 1c coins about 6 inches down on $1/$2 signals

Thanks SL - yes I am getting to know my machine - but ye ol bottle top still gets me thinking its a 1/2 dollar coin.

It is interesting that my son's xterra 705 does a much better job in discerning one target from another but it is both a good and bad thing when detecting against the Garrett. While his coin total is usually superior to mine - it seems the Garrett is extremely good at finding the $1/2 coins so while he is digging another 20/10/5 I am unearthing another dollar or two. Yesterday's totals highlight the issue - I found $15 while he found $3.20 even though he pulled more coin targets. I think maybe in older areas holding coins before 1984 he would out due me miserably - but as long as we detect frequently visited sites I seem to have the upper hand.

Still working it all out - looking forward to changing gears and getting a couple of long beach sessions under my belt!

The one thing that he forgets is when he does find the goldies, 60% of the time I'm needed to find the target he has detected ;)

well I had the opposite experience ..my son outdid me on our trips to the footy oval...he seemed to find the targets with the ace 250 easier than me with the exterra 305....could be he was just walking over more targets than I was

Well I can agree, we go separate areas and I always find he smaller coins while he finds all the gold

Well I have come to the conclusion that the ATX is definitely not the machine for trashy parks and playgrounds. Tha Garrett Ace 250 is much more fun.

I think the Garrett ace range are a good simple detector. From what I understand the atx is a beast better unleashed in the gold fields. I guess that's why you don't see people down at the beach with the gpx models

I use a 305 for parks and still get the bottle caps and ring pulls. The pennies and shallow ring pulls have always shown up as the same number for some reason.

Thanks guys - today I had another couple of hour sessions but all I found was this minus the trash - I am happy to say I am unearthing less and less trash as I learn to discriminate it out.... :)

Oh yeah - I tested my son's new pro pointer out which is what pointed out the little piece of metal next to the coins - I would have never have seen it without the pointer - at least it will stop me from going crazy trying to find the target ( I am vision imparied from too many birthdays)

Some great finds there Paulmarr. Any pin pointer is a must for our hobby. I wouldn't hit a park without one. My Pro-pointer started playing up on my last hunt and it was just so slow trying to find the coins. I had just replaced the battery with a new one straight out of the pack and found the problem wasn't the pro-pointer it was the new battery. All's good now!

I can't wait to give it a go, I did take it out but didn't use it. I have found adjusting my threshold correctly after my visit to the shop and am now finding the smallest metal fragments. I'm thinking of making a YouTube Chanel to help others with settings and what not. There are some videos out there for the 705 but they don't give a lot of information

Yup - I agree - it was like flying blind without it - I can't believe the difference it does make. I identified some rather large objects that it wasn't apparent until a dug a few inches and then the pointer outlined the size of the object. Pieces of pipe, and other junk that is definitely not a coin could be identified cutting down my search time. It gives more granular indications with the depth than the detector which is in two inch increments.

A great idea SA bogan.
Youtubes showing the settings you use would be extremely helpful to people starting out.
Hopefully you start a trend and others with different machines could do similar.

i agree, plus i can put up what i find works for me. and who knows, might even get a prospecting australia shirt to wear in the videos as advertising ;)

Can we have a competition to name the YouTube channel? How's Boganology 101 for a starter! :D
