Hi Folks,

Finally finished the rocket stove. Didnt turn out too bad in the end except for a couple of ordinary welds. Quite happy with how it worked as a cooker and the low fuel usage. Should be a handy addition to the camp kit.

The legs and billy supports all slip into the chimney making it quite compact.

The only change would be to modify the grate system at the bottom of the fire. The holes did not allow the fire to breath as well as I had hoped. Luckily, extra air was drawn in through the timber hopper and allowed the fire to burn efficiently. Thanks for the initial post
Tathradj. You have provided the inspiration for a few members to generate some sparks and burn hands.

Very nice job Lesgold. :perfect: :perfect:
I was in the Bay today but was too tied up to come say G'Day
and survey your fine craftsmanship in person.
Plus talk Bee's.

Gives me inspiration to see people take up a good idea and build their own. :)

Now we wait until CTX finnish's his. :Y: :Y:

Hi Wishfull,

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. Just weighed the stove and it comes in at just under 10kg all up. If you wanted to get that figure down, RHS with a 2mm wall thickness could be used instead of 3mm. I reckon 75x75 RHS would also make a good stove. You should be able to get the weight down to about 6kg or even less with a bit of work.

Cheers

Hi ctx,

Thanks for that mate. It is surprising what a coat of paint can cover. Lol. Looking forward to seeing your finished stove.

Hi Ned,

Roughed out a bit of a drawing of the main body of the stove. Dampers, lids, billy supports etc are quite straight forward and can be customised to suit your own build. You should be able to pick up enough from the thread to sort this out. A basic materials list is as follows:

Chimney section 100x100 RHS with a 3mm wall - 350mm in length

Hopper section (measured to the long diagonal) 280mm (100x100) cut at 45 degrees on one end

Air intake 100x50 RHS with 3mm wall - 280mm long

Billy supports 40 x 3 flat bar. 2 @ 280mm

4 x 1/2 gal cup head bolts @ 200mm

8 x 1/2 zinc hex nuts (two nuts welded together, shaped and welded to the air intake)

2 x 10 mm steel bar @ 150mm

I would order a little bit more of the RHS so that dampers and hinge material can be cut. A spray can of high temp paint for pot belly stoves is also required. A couple of pieces of broom handle would do for damper handles.

Just noticed that I cut one of the dimensions off. Sorry about that. Youll pick it up in the cutting list. Good luck with the build.

Cheers

Les
