Hi guys,

Thanks for the positive comments. Well the big test came tonight. Decided to try out the beast before buying paint. The coach had some chicken pieces that needed cooking so I said you beaut a stir fry. Put on some brown rice and got the stove cranked up at the back door. (No handles attached as they were being finished.)

And the end result. (A whole heap of veggies from the garden and stuff that would have gone off if it wasnt cooked)

Hate to brag but it worked a treat. Awesome to cook with and used very little timber. Most of the wood self fed from the hopper. Apart from some paint, a hessian bag should be all that is required to store the stove. Will pop up a pic of the finished item in a day or so.

Cheers

Thanks guys. Time to put the shed back in order and clean this thing up for painting. Should have thrown some honey in that stir fry Mackka.....Slipping a bit in my old age. OK ctx, lets see your build. Theres plenty of room for improvement on this design. PM me if you want any dimensions or suggested alterations.

Cheers

Hey kid, whatcha doin' on Lesgolds patch?!

:playful:

Good stuff. I reckon the combined timber hopper/ air intake is the way to go. My stove actually breathes better through the timber hopper than it does via the horizontal air intake that I added. Yours will also be a little more compact. Keep those pics coming. Oh, by the way, those 5 stoves on the clip are pretty amazing. There must be a lot of people like us out there without a life. lol.

A bit of kit that always comes with me when I go out prospecting is the Kelly Kettle. The model I purchased holds hot water for two mugs of tea or coffee and a bit left over to rinse the mugs and kill any smouldering ash that remains. Its a permanent fixture in the ute. A couple of handfuls of twigs thrown down the chimney produces enough heat to boil water in a few minutes. If my wife and I are travelling, I can have a cuppa ready by the time she makes a couple of sandwiches.

If we are on the road for a few weeks, a camp cooker that I made about five years ago comes with us. It all packs down and fits into a fish box. (Except for the chimney)
The hole in the top was made to accomodate our camp oven and a wok sits in there perfectly. Did have a bbq plate for it but it was never used. Most things seem to be cooked in the wok (bacon and eggs, snags, steaks, stir fries etc.) A billy sits on the grate which also cooks toast or steaks. Would be lost without it.

The little rocket stove is more for those weekends away where you dont want to be overloaded with stuff. But in reality, it was just an excuse to make something.

The stove has one coat of pot belly black paint applied. It will get its final touch up in the morning. The handles were finished with two coats of Danish oil. Photos will come tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing your assembled stove ctx. I reckon your gunna have a beast of a machine that will crank out good heat.

Cheers

WD40 (or if your a cat lover -K9P) is the most important bit of gear in the tool box. No flies on you ctx. You dont waste time on your builds. Well done mate. Always good to see that it does what it needs to do.
