Respect ?

I checked few different forums before joining this one, I found it the best & friendliest forum & it seemed to have more people that were willing to help other members & newbies, I have joined another forum but rarely post there.
There has been a few people join lately that do seem like they just want to stir things up, obviously nothing better to do with themselves, nothing more than keyboard warriors & not worth the time of day as far as I'm concerned.
I respect everybody & show everybody courtesy until they show they don't deserve it, I think thats how it should be, everybody gets a chance & if they stuff it up then stuff them, there's enough crap in this world without having to put up with it on this great forum.
I honestly think the mods should start getting a bit tougher on some members, specially when a new member joins & within their first 10-20 posts they are causing problems, that gives you a pretty good idea what they are like, if it was up to me then there would be more people getting banned & yes while it might make the forum take a little longer to grow it will atleast weed out the trouble makers & encourage the good members to stay & post more.
Keep up the great work all you moderators, keep this forum the best one around.

It has to said though a couple of my favorites are mods here, and some of the newer members are good all round guys gold and experience aside.
Next time I'm in touch I'll reach out to a few other guys and see if they would like to start putting some more things up. In good faith I'll round up a few pics and a couple stories and share them here and elsewhere.
I've had a bit of a rant and vent but I don't want for one second to tar everyone with the same brush, the good far outweighs the negative.
I'm just wary of how attention can be negative attention sometimes which makes you wonder why you bother. Most small scale mining threads/posts go the way of the dodo for that reason. Sneak over there if you need proof. It gets disheartening after a while.
In fairness if anyone feels I'm out of line just hit me up with a pm, a thoughtful one, I can always ask for a post to be pulled if it's stopping anyone enjoying the forum without resorting to sensationalist and dramatic biases loading up my inbox.

I have probably been guilty of late of posting when I should have bit my tongue, but I have still tried to keep my posts civil and show respect. Normally I would try to avoid these posts, but it is hard when someone you know personally is attacked or bad mouthed.

I still think the climate change thread was a great look at how people can have a difference of opinion and share those opinions without resorting to name calling or belittling others opinions. I think in the end a lot of different information came out from all sides which was interesting and informative, now if only all the prospecting/mining topics could go that way wouldn't it be great?

I have not had much to contribute due to Family and UNI and sorely miss the old trips and stories that used to get posted on a regular basis. Hopefully the forum is due some Christmas cheer to bring the mood back up a little.

After getting on the Makers Mark and drinking a fair decent amout starting with beers at Barney's place at 2pm while druelling all over his gemstones, the only thing I can really think of saying is don't believe everything you read and hear on the internet. Get out into the field and have a go, you'll meet people (some very experienced) who share the same interests and will learn way more than sitting in front of a computer.

Just be nice to each other while here, errr .......on the computer.......

An old screen shot of early PA days, when the rookies (myself) would sit back and sponge up info while being courteous and respectfull to those in the know.
PA is a totally different place today, I remember when nugget was moderating with Wal and a few others how impressive there "no bullshlt" attitude was, if a newby came in hot headed and caused heat for no reason - BANNED.
It worked really well, there was honestly no bickering or trash talking- it was actually impressive.

There are some really good guys on here, and also one or three deadshlts that feel the need to post crud left/right/centre.

I've been here long enough to get excited when an old knowledgable member contributes something new - or even newer members who can string a sentence together and contribute what they can.
But as Heatho said, you can't learn everything from behind a computer screen- get out there with the knowledge you've got and have a go- it's how I've done it and the rewards are meeting great people and finding the good stuff (occasionally lol)

Well it seems to me that there's one thing thats come out of all of this.
Many members have had the same thoughts as myself and maybe some good will come out of this topic.
I understand that people are just people and we all have our faults, we won't always agree with the ideas and opinions of other's and I'm fine with that.
But before we get hot under the collar and start replying aggressively to a post we find offensive, just stop and think first.
Don't put the moderators in the situation where they have to lock up a thread or ban members because of a hasty emotional reply.
Keep the the passion, the excitement and knowledge flowing so that we all can enjoy this forum for what it truly is, "amazing".
Thanks fellow members and moderators for your constructive input in your posts on this thread.
It's given me much to consider.

Most of what I would like to contribute to this thread has already been said.

What I will say is that 99% of members appear to be great people with lots to contribute and share. Being relatively new to detecting, this forum has been a great help to me and hopefully I can pass on what I have learned to other new members.

I have met a few members at a meet we had and I can honestly say that it was a great experience. If you can get the chance, I highly recommend it.

One final thing on Respect: showing someone respect doesnt mean you have to go out and have a beer with them. You dont have to like someone to show them respect. I myself am guilty of not showing enough respect and courtesy to others. Perhaps, especially at this time of year when we tend to spend more time with family, we should all take the time to be a little more courteous and respectful to each other and those around us. It would certainly make for a better world.

Merry Xmas to all and may your New Year be either golden or bountiful with treasures and relics (depending on which way you swing).

well said guys, there are some great blokes on here and many that i would take any opportunity to be able to spend time with weather that be in the bush swing a detector, by a creek panning or just sitting with having a beer and taking about our hobby. I am still very new to the hobby compared to most so in that sense i dont post much cause i dont know enough unless i think it may be useful to someone, the one time i thought i had posted something that may have seemed offensive to one person i made sure i pm'd them to clear it up and that there was no ill intention to it, and they appreciated that i think, the ones that have been around for a bit are wealth of knowledge, respect is a huge thing missing in a lot of forums but i thank for the most part we go alright, and the ones that dont have it are not usually here to stay for to long

That's pretty much how it is Reeko, I agree totally mate. The forum is a great stepping stone and a tool to learn from and share ideas, plus a bit of a social club for organising events and the like. It does not replace experience and doing field trips but is a great resource of combined knowledge.

I also think members saying they want to leave or delete their accounts is counter productive as you will never like everyone you meet in life and forums are just like any other social experience. Getting into conversation or debate of any type requires a reasonably thick skin and the ability to agree to disagree. Not having a go at you Stoyve, I just think this is relevant as a few people have said the same thing, sometimes just having a break for a while can be a good thing.

Most of the really experienced people are still members here, many are just having a break or doing other things at the moment, I know most still read the forum and comment when appropriate or time permits.
