I tend to disagree. Respect is not something given at birth, respect has to be earn.
Karl

The word respect also has other usages, Karl. In relation to forum members, we're talking about mutual respect.

Hello members,

Most members don't post anything as we all know, but what I have noticed in the last few months is a reluctance for greatly respected and knowledgeable members to barely post anything such as WalnLiz, Loamer, dwt etc.
RESPECT is lacking when someone abuse's or mocks another member just because of a different opinion a way of prospecting.

Regards Steve's

im like that im afraid if I post something about mining some other smart know it all person will have a sook about it so im just watching posts at the moment until I feel comfortable posting my stories and experiences

Respect may have to be earn but to treat someone with disrespect is not OK.

I agree, but I think that you guys are confusing coutresy with respect.

Karl
Well i can't speak for Steve, but in my opinion when i'm talking about respect here i mean respecting somebody else's opinion even if it doesn't align with my own. Courtesy is how you treat others imo.

You're right on the knocker there SCROUNGER, I can't agree with you more.
Respect and courtesy along with good will goes a very long way mate.

Everyone is due respect, until they prove otherwise. Is it the general section being most problematic, the gold prospecting bits, or is it across the board? I dont read much in the gold sections, but do see the odd issue in the general section....so just dont look at it, if you dont like reading a colorful discussion :)

Yep thats what i see General gets quite funky at times a bit to much for me to endure, if i read, respect is won and lost all in a single page sometimes, so i look, roll eyes and move on, I havnt been a member for long but I really appreciate everyone's input on all topics as it give me food for thought and queries to research elsewhere.

Stoyve i know mate i was just saying something similar today to the newbies...did you bug me hotdogs!
Anyway i have never met you but if ya had a face like a smashed crab i would still luv ya and dont leave cause you and a few others kept me going when i wanted to give up?
Oi i met Silver today!!! another smashed crab hahaha
Any hoot!!! You need the bad and the ugly....just scroll past the BS... it only effects you if you let it..... i got hotdogs...gold and you blokes...the forum will look after itself.....now is that my 1000th post??

Top post stove thanks. But there is one point that has been over looked and that is the good old Troll. their main aim is to get on a forum and cause disruption thats how they gets their kicks among other things.

I love you mate, you have a good attitude and positivity about you stovye.
I'm sure to a few blokes I am anything but, still you gotta have some characters on here.
What is missing is good solid prospecting blokes that help keep the wheels turning. There's more than a few left but I agree they are much quieter now than ever. We've lost some heavy weights too which is a real shame, blokes who balls to bones knew their stuff and it's noticeably absent.
It's a been a bit like a bar where there's a few too many who had a few too many and the good solid entertaining guys have slipped out or stayed quiet as some of the rowdy ones let loose. I dunno how to fix it or if it's even broken, but some of my mates from here, old and new, will hopefully continue to catch up for a chin wag and a bit of RnR from time to time which to me is just gold. And that right there is the number one reason I love this place.
It's experienced people like you blokes Goldtarget, stove, WalnLiz etc etc that need to speak up more about 'chasing the gold' so that us newbies can learn mate, and then eventually we can pass on our own knowledge as we get better at it. I certainly don't want the mods closing down threads anymore than anybody else, but if people are trolling, being Aholes and not 'respecting' the views of others then in my opinion i rather some be banned than the good 'knowledge' on this forum being lost due to knowledgeable people going walkabout.
From a purely selfish point of view i'd hate to see the 'experience' leaving this great forum, because that would seriously diminish it imo.

Baahaaaa, Thanks yobs, I've always appreciated your particular type of madness and respect your shoot from the hip attitude mate.
It's your good humor and can do attitude that's a major part of the good that's in this forum.
You guys make this forum worth sticking around I guess.
It's just that I'd love to see old hand back and Meta contributing with his mad passion along with some of the others that have faded.
There are many others that refrain from posting in the last twelve months and it's because of the few who have been critical.
Let's bring it back to how it should be and that would make this old smashed crab faced hotdog eating piece of crow bait a happy fella.
Thanks again yobs.

It's true Jenna, there have been Trolls on here but we soon sort them out mate.
It's members who are passionate but intolerant that's making others reluctant to post anything.
I have on more than one occasion encouraged newbies to get involved and always get a buzz when they do.
Maybe I'm just suffering from end of the year burn out and just need to settle down.

I think there should be some moderator meet ups for the occasional stoning, from disgruntled forum members and we could put it on funniest home video.

On a more serious note i myself have been involved in a few heated arguments most of mine have been about my passion to keep the hobby going and or sales of so called new gold detectors and the outrageous claims of depth
One reason i have not been on that much also is ive realised that forums are their own worst enemy i posted over 180 dollars in a day and i think people who read the articles think if i got that every day id be rich well if i got it every day i would be some times it costs me 8 dollars for parking to find 2 dollars on the beach and with heritage laws posting your best finds may result one day on someone knocking on the door.
but when my health is better ill be back out in the bush looking for the gold stuff and getting fit in the fresh air because when it all boils down to it thats why i love the hobby good friends and a day in the clean air the rest is a bonus

I appreciate the words mate and not to diminish what your target message is the truth is I am barely a prospector, an ok shooter and a bit negative at times.
When I arrived there were serious prospectors, enthusiastic hobbyist and blokes with a great sense of humour and fun.
Balx along with Wal had a series of great prospecting videos and a heap of goodwill attached, and many many others with solid contributions, and I can't quite convey just how vibrant the place was.
I sat listened learnt and contributed, and rarely did the group stop sharing knowledge and stories, locations advice and equipment.
But somewhere along the way newer members stopped asking questions in the threads, and from my own account hammered my inbox for spots without being polite, members I got along with shared their dismay via pm at untoward behavior, places got attention and thrashed, and the whole ugly side of forums and hunters seemed to rear it's head.
So I stopped posting about prospecting (actual prospecting) and took my shooting and hunting off the forum. Suddenly the pm stopped. I can only assume this happened to others.
Egos and greed can cut deep, and gold tends to bring that out. If you just look closely you can see two things. Old members drying up their info resources and shares about prospecting realities (gold finds, trips , pics etc) and more theory and back links to old topics, and Secondly a few posers and trolls who portray themselves as prospecting types that contribute not too much.
Now hopefully most blokes can work out the difference between a decent knowledgeable member, an enthusiastic but green member, the I don't have a clue but willing to listen and learn and contribute positive member (those 3 typescovers a great deal of members) and the posers and the trolls on the fringe racking up post counts but doing little for themselves or anyone else.
As soon as they lose interest and/or walk out the door I'll go out of my way to contribute and help where I can again, and im almost certain other long standing members would too. The trouble is they keep turning up.
Lastly I'll declare my hand and say this isn't a beat up, it's not here for likes,
I'm just calling as I see it. And I wish I didn't have to, because there was a time that this sort of post was neither needed or tolerated.

I like seeing gold/stories and info being posted as much as the next bloke, but if that was the only thing I came here for I would stay in the relevant areas. I appreciate the contributions of, lets say the regular 40 or so blokes that are more or less here on a daily basis. Successful prospectors or not. There are blokes on here that I would go prospecting with or have a beer with any day of the week and to be honest, I came here to find other like minded people to go hunting for gold with. Not to be told where the gold is at. I've seen the writing on the wall for some of our members who have left. But that's life, each to their own. I know first hand how daunting joining in on discussions can be, because no one wants to look the fool.
I'm no intellectual heavyweight and I'm no accomplished prospector. I am just a bloke who enjoys the hunt and hopes to snag a few bits before its all gone.
I hope we can ignore the knobs and move on, with a slight hick up now and then. People have issues and as much as it baffles me, why people do the things they do. Whether its the booze talking or whatever.
Life is honestly too short and I do not suffer fools gladly.

Such is life.

Compared to all the experienced contributors on this thread, I'm a total newbie to the great hobby of detecting/prospecting. I for one have learnt more on here than anywhere else, so for my sake and others like me, I hope all you knowledgable dudes don't pull the plug on your fantastic contributions to the forum.
Let's hope 2016 can be the year of respect and appreciation.
Compliments of the season,
Adrian.
