The previous post, looks similar to an old tap fitting with the threads, the part on the other side throws me though, what the hell is it!

Got out for a couple of hours last night. No silvers but it was a good hunt. I spent 2 hours in 1 spot and did OK. Lots of trash though. I concentrated on the area under some old trees. The piece of horse shoe was no surprise as there used to be an old race track nearby. Though it's a bit big for a race horse. I actually got more coins on my random wandering back to the car. I moved to a new spot and it sure paid off. Spent an hour there. More than half the coins came from this spot and no trash. The small button also came from this spot. No idea what the cone shaped item is. ;) ;)

A quick review of my Grey Ghost headphones. This is the first time I have used them for an extended period. Firstly the cord is longer than on the standard Garret model. This is much better when digging as they are not constantly being pulled by the detector. They are very comfy, forgot they were there. The Garrett were always falling off when bending over and the cushions for the ears kept coming off. The GGs never moved. I also like that there is only one volume control as well. Overall I am very happy with them.

It' amazing the amount of historical stuff we find, if we don't know what the cone shaped thingy is for, just imagine those down the track through time doing research on this very forum(armchair time travellers) trying to work out what they are and why they were found where they were and just what they were used for will be such a mystery for them,... I don't know, I couldn't even begin to postulate on it,... maybe it's a part for something( he says as he shrugs his shoulders unknowingly) of which we are totally unaware.

A couple of hours after work last night. Met up with Rocketroo for a late valentines play date ;) Thanks for coming out mate. Was good to meet you. We went over an area I had been to before. Still produced a few coins. At first we got a few ring pulls and bottle tops as we were comparing machines. One thing was that my At Pro did not like Rocket's pin pointer. Chattered away when it was turned on up to 2 metres away. Rocket got his first pre dec and I got my first Commonwealth of Australia half penny. Oh and I got a chunk of lead. I have taken a piece of lead from this spot every time I have been there. Rings up a high tone like a coin and reads as 2-4 inches when actually it was more like 6 to 7 inches.

Was a good hunt, reckon we hit upon the best part of the turf last! I had detected morning and night, and my arm was tired, so I switched off the detector. Ramjet detected all the way back to the cars, and found a couple of 1 dollars, very low in the turf :) Thanks again, for the help, and company :)

Last night's finds. I had a good night, firstly I did a quick hit on a tot lot where about half of the moderns were found. Then I moved to an area of the park I hadn't detected before and the coins kept coming. A couple of good finds for me. My oldest coin to date by 1 year is the 1916 hapenny. Also found my first English penny which I'm stoked about. My favourite find was the school badge until I got home and saw the half penny date and the English penny. The motto on the badge is 'Play the game'. So overall I'm a pretty happy little Ramjet. :D I'm used to finding pieces of lead in parks but not a sinker. No need to melt it down ;)

Thanks Heatho.

I forgot to include in my previous post the small button I found last night. It is the second button of the same design I have found within several meters of each other. Same design but as you can see the dots are different. Any clues? They were found not too far away from war memorials and I thought they may have been lost during commemorations?

EDIT: Just realised they are not buttons but the back of badges. DER :8

Hi Ramjet,

The badge backings are very familiar. My dad was in the Army and had these for all his Rising Suns/lapel badges and all the rest. Have not seen any other type of badge backing similar (in my short life) so I'm calling Military but someone else might know more.

Cheers!

Mike. :)
