Bit of an odd question for a prospecting forum but being remote it's a bit hard to try before you buy.

I need a new pillow.
Just took a squiz on Ebay and it's not so straight forward. Typed in the word "pillows" and there was 103 549 results!

A bazillion different materials, shapes, stuffings, pillows for snorers, pillows for pregnant women, pillows with herbs, crystals etc... I only need a damn pillow!

Any opinions especially form anyone who's had a bull near break their neck much appreciated.

Thanks Doug, and I agree..the picture of the pillow you emailed me probably wouldn't be suitable for the forum

Whisp, thanks mate but as I said I live remote, I can't go look at them I have to buy online. The closest chemist that might sell a pillow is 400klms away.

Our necks are precious and I can relate to this after several neck injuries (falling off horses, car accident, diving accident) plus increasing age

I take my own special pillow everywhere I go, so I'd suggest something like this...not necessarily this one, but something similar... plus possibly one with magnets incorporated (NOT rare earth magnets though  ) Also Arnica or Comfrey cream is wonderful for soft tissue/bony injuries.

many thanks Miss Annie!!!
Just a question about the magnets though, my head and half my body sets off my detector as I've got a fair amount of pins, plates, wire and screws. Will the magnets be a concern? like will the pillow stick to my head or be a problem?

Cheers!

I got a new one just a few weeks ago Madtuna, and I love it :inlove:

For years Mrs Deepseeker wanted me to throw out my old wafer thin one, and once she even took the initiative and did just that, but I fished it out of the bin and washed it. Then, a few weeks back my neck was giving me hell. A combination I suspect of swimming 3 times a week (and for some weird reason I can only breathe on my right side when I swim, and that makes my neck sore), and lugging around the 25" DD X and digging deep craters with the pick and spud bar.

Anyway, to cut to the chase- Went to the Chiropractor to get crunched because of neck pain and pins & needles down my left arm. She sends me for X-rays and as it happens I've worn the crapper out of my cervical vertebrae (and how about that huh? Who'da thought I had a Cervix???).

Chiro reckons at some time I've fractured my neck and the X-ray shows little free-range spinous processes floating around doing their own thing, no longer a part of my vertebrae.

Then she says- What is your pillow like? So I tell her, it's a wafer thin piece of nothing that I'm madly in love with and I'm not parting with it. So, she goes out of the room and comes back with this (unfortunately just the pillow, not the girl)

It's made from Latex rubber, the very same stuff that they make crotchless batman suits out of apparently. So, she looks at me laying down on my side on the Chiro table, and says "No, too thick", then goes away and comes back with a thinner one. And man, I forked out $90 right there and then, went home and threw my beloved wafer thin oldy straight in the bin. It took a Chiro to work out what type of pillow I needed. I used to wake up at least 2 or 3 times in the night to go have a wee, now I rarely get up until the alarm goes off (and no, I don't wee the bed either :p )

Mrs Deepseeker used to sleep with one ear plug in her ear for years so she couldn't hear me snore. I have not snored once in the last few weeks, and she says sometimes there's only the slightest murmur from me (she even says that sometimes she thinks I'm actually dead, and I'm not sure yet if this is a good thing or not).

But all jokes aside, I have never slept so well in my whole life. The contoured latex pillow makes you lay with your spine and neck straight, with support for your neck as well as your head.

I doubt you'll be stuck to the bed madtuna as the magnets aren't THAT strong, so all good (even if you have a Pacemaker).

I was like Deepseeker 20 years ago...and I've had several chiropractic pillows since...plus I sleep in a (waveless) waterbed and wake up every morning pain free ...now if I could take my waterbed everywhere I go I'd be permanently in heaven

Ring/email before you buy and ask if they'll exchange for a different size seeing as you're too far from "civilization" to try before you buy

Good luck :)

Something to consider with the pillows being recommended, as they're latex, they may be a bit hot for you out there where it gets really hot...... something to consider. Mightn't be a problem for you, just saying :) .

Hey MT when you figure it out let me know
I have bought every pillow available trying to find something not too hard , not too soft , not too high ,not too low , NOT TOO HOT
All of the above and every one in between.
Ive got so many friggin pillows i give them out as gifts to anyone who asks
The grand kids make igloo type cubbies out of them.
I dont think there is a perfect pillow
Just pick one and put up with it ;)

Lived with a neck injury for years, a physiotherapist steered me to a "Contoured Memory Foam Pillow" have never slept better.
You can get them cheaper than this but it gives you an idea. (My lovely picked up a $150.00 version for $40.00)
Failing that fold a towel lengthwise the width of your pillow, roll it up and place it inside pillow cover. When you lay down on your side the towel roll fits/supports your neck.

Adds on the radio for Spinal Eze pillow, some bloke bangs on about his invention and it's unique ability to rid users of pain. Apparently he developed it after pain injury and useless medical professionals who claimed to know how to keep his pain in check but failed. So I'm sure by now you get the jist that he really flogs his product like everyone else, I've got no idea how good/crap they are and haven't met a user who bangs on about like the inventor salesman. Can't hurt to check'em out on the web.

What ever you get/try make sure to give us your appraisal, who knows we might end up with a sticky pillow thread :8
