G'day Jen77 welcome to PA, I don't think so you can contact museum Victoria and email them a photo, might help but then again it might not. I'll ask a few people I know and see what I can find out, been in the locksmithing game for a while now. Where did you get it, has someone told you it is, a bit more info wil help.

Great lock! But that word on the top right looks like "BANK".

What's the wording going down along the right side of the cover plate? Can't read it.

Cheers,
Megsy

Man, that looks beautiful all cleaned up :Y:

It may be possible too that it's an Indian Knock-off. There are quite few similar types of this design with similar wording being sold on various websites. Some claim to be genuine, some claim to be reproductions. Most that I've found similar to this though, the seller is located in India.

Like this one : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Brass-padl...ntique-unusual-shape-CROWN-MARK-/163677083257

May be best to find someone who deals in the real things or as suggested run it by the museum for authenticity

Looks very well made and they have gone to alot of trouble with all the markings ,so it appears to have been for a very important purpose.

No, there very few padlocks at Pentridge and the few that were certainly not brass.
Most locks were internal within the doors.
