I found the other part to this broken stirrup. It was exactly a year ago I dug out the initial foot support bit 50 metres away... I posted it back in post #72 of this thread.
My new Nokta Legend is certainly mopping up in my old spots.

Yeah Megsy, I have a general idea of the history of this place, but it would be interesting to see if I’m finding the owner’s stuff or perhaps some visiting who’s who . This caper gets you in hey !
1934 was the year the SAJC re introduced on course bookmakers. May well have seen a swelling of their membership numbers.
Back out today and visited a couple of my go to spots.

I would love to ID it to verify its age. It’s got some makers mark on the back, but it’s very feint..... some Googling coming up.

Could be a Hammond and Turner extra fine sporting button. with images of hunting dogs on them. Mid 19th century. It is most famous for its sporting buttons. It also made buttons for the Confederates in the Civil War. Go to HT Museum.

The top brass piece looks like a dado board picture hook. Very popular way back. wiley

That's an interesting button. It is a hunt button and shows a dog with a dead bird in its mouth, as I'm sure you've worked out. It doesn't look like any of the hunt buttons I own but that doesn't mean it's not by Hammond Turner. I have been unable to see another button like it (or a different image on a similar background) in the go-to button reference work so I can't tell you much about it, I'm afraid.
But it is very likely that a member of one of the button societies will recognise it as being part of a set. There is the British Button Society whose members are very knowledgeable, and I suggest that organiosation as the button may well have been made here. There are at least two Australian societies, https://www.vicbuttonclub.com.au/and https://www.austbuttonhistory.com/australian-button-history/ All three have a contact us page and the BBS has an ID service (for a small fee).
The design looks Victorian to me (as in the era, not the location) and that's about as much as I can say. It is interesting that you describe is as having a felt centre - I'm certain someone will be able to tell you more about it if you send the photo you sent me (plus one of the back, unless it is completely corroded) as well as a clear word picture.
