Yep!!
At our last place Telstra asked for 25 locals to commit to ADSL so they could upgrade the local switchboard, problem was there were only 23 houses within the given area and Telstra would not include the 4 lines into the school, so we had to wait for the NBN.......still waiting close to 5 years later, so glad we moved now it's only 2 years to wait

Fibre is the way forward. It's not going to get slower with age and the limit is really light speed. WiFi cant handle the massive bandwidth.
