Dave, I found a couple of predec's that had been in the salty sand of Pt Wakefield here in SA and they were fried. Green oxide all over them and unrecognisable. So I chucked them in diesel and just left them there. Every so often I'd get them out scrape a bit of the green stuff off and then return them to the solution. Lets be clear. These coins were never going to be UNC grade but after 6MONTHS in the solution I was happy with the result. I didn't take before and after photos because I didn't think theyd be worth it but as I say, after 6 months they were at least recognisable and I was happy to wipe them off and put them with other Predecs in my stash. Its going to be a long long process with periodic scrapings to get the gunk off. Good luck.
 
Got out today to my bush site 3hrs 2 pennies & what might be a florin.
