Take a pale skin friend with ya, the cleaner the better , bit like mosquitos i reckon if ya sweating stale grog and smell like a yeti they will go to the clean person cause they can smell the blood better. Here they bite straight through your shirt.

Man I stink of sweat and stale beer a lot of the time and every insect that bites will always take a piece of me. The Missus doesn't thankfully and they only bite her if I'm not around. I think it may have to do with blood type as the son hardly gets touched but the daughters just like me minus the sweaty stale beer smell.

Hate flies... Ate about 4 during one trip to a mine while in SA. The mine had heaps of sheep living around it, so many flies had to give up after a while. So bad there was about 50 flying around me

Wouldn't you think a personal fly vacc would do the job,... something small with a telescopic tube, rechargeable, visually able to see the flys in it, and no way for them to get out, maybe a side solar recharge panel, and the ability for the flys inside to be overheated by the sunlight and killed during recharging time, so that you can empty out the dead flys before you go again, could be a quick strong short burst vacc sort of thing that once a fly is in it's only got one way out,.... AND THAT'S DEAD.
We have the tech to be able to make something like that nowdays.
This product doesn't exist at all, but if someone wants to make it and pay me royalties that are worthwhile to me, then I will be in on the deal,.... just contact me by PM so we can begin the negotiations for it. ;) :D

Well, just home after 4 days in the Dunolly area and never saw any March flies at all.
A few of those pesky little ones, but even they were down in numbers.
One or two Golden Orbs but they seem late as well.

After all the rain around the place, they've probably mated themselves to death and left a plague of eggs laid everywhere,.... and they'll grow, drop, pupate, and be ready to come out and swarm before the next big seasonal storm.

Speaking of flies in general, they arnt too bad up here as a rule, but as soon as I put any lamb at all on the bbq, they turn up in droves.
Beef, no difference, pork the same, but they love the small of lamb, is the same down south?

I reckon it is actually, my mate who lived near Cooma would always get grumpy if I left his door open when he was cooking a lamb roast, same thing, flies would be coming from everywhere.
