In the past ten months I was called up and dismissed seven times. It seemed that every time the weather looked good for prospecting the letter turned up in the mail, then the day before the trial it was deferred.
The last time got selected, had lunch ( very nice too) went back into court, there was a problem with some camera setup for a witness.
Next thing was that the judge dismissed the jury, got $115 including travel costs.
Then a letter stating I was excused from duty for three years. Hooray!
The next two days of fine weather was spent at Rushworth with good results, no pressure.
It was interesting though how some were excused by the judge during the selection process. He was happy to excuse only because so many had actually turned up for selection. The judge stated that in some cases (hence deferment of the case) there were not enough to select a jury from.
The second time called up I tried to get excused so as to sail in some State championships, had accomodation booked and all. No luck though, luckily the case was deferred a day before racing started. No gold but a third overall was fine.
Best of luck
