Japanese fish prints ... seems it's called Gyotaku (Fish Pressing).
Right fish and paper make for some stunning examples, this one's an example .....

Great work as always Scrounger, have you ever tried doing that Japanese print thing .... dried fish skin/scales, inked and then paper pressed onto it.
Can't remember what it's called but can look terrific.
Cheers Tom
Thanks Tom, what you're thinking of is called Gyotaku, it has nothing to do with polishing balls as per Atoms thread elsewhere either Havingago   It's an ancient Japanese art form. In japanese gyo means fish and taku means print or rubbing. The practice goes back about six centuries. there';s abloke in Hawaii doing some of them commercially, they do look good if done well.
I haven't done any though Tom because i very rarely kill any fish i catch. I normally work off photos i've taken of fish i catch, or from memory and reference books.

You could end up doing abstract Gyotaku if you tried it with a catch and release technique SCROUNGER(not gunna be happy with ink all over it,... be a WTF moment for the fish),... but it would be good to see a vid of you trying(ha).

Yeah, could be a bit tough mate, imagine trying to hold the bloody thing still while you rolled ink over it

At first I didn't realize John Dory was the name of a fish. Yes mate, that is sure a nice screen print Scrounger of the fish. Very exotic looking fish species there, I'm trying to imagine what it must taste like, must be good eating. I used to do a lot of fishing, got spoiled with a smallmouth bass stringer of lunkers on a fishing trip (Dad and I). Never tried to make artwork out of these pics, but might be nice to do some fish sketching later (after my current projects get done).

Notice the small fish is the only largemouth bass about no longer than 14" and is bottom near mid point of this pic (half cutoff view), top right in photo above.

Beautiful work Scrounger, they really do have a great character look to them. Brought back memories of a morning fishing with my wife at Jervis Bay, we were fishing for snapper with light gear when my live bait rod went off. I grabbed the rod then my snapper rod went off so my wife grabbed that one. A few minutes later my wife said something about having a dirty cod on the line and when I looked over I saw she was trying to shake free the biggest John Dory I have seen. Luckily I was able to stop her and the fish was landed. Great on a plate for a southern fish as well though they are no coral trout.

Been fishing hard for 30 years, having a bit of a rest from it now for a bit, sold my boat when I bought my house, needed extra cash for the deposit, still make lures though, will post a few pics in a new thread.

look forward to seeing more of your art mate, its awsome.

I would like to see your lures, I don't need any myself as I have over a thousand but I enjoy seeing what blokes come up with.

No it's not a screenprint RRD, it's a pen and ink illustration with a gouache painted background. Other sketch further along in the thread is a pencil sketch of a snapper.

Just outstanding, scrounger. Reminds me of the classic scientific drawings of the highest calibre. Would not mind having one on the wall at my place if you are selling any!
