If you found a big lump of gold how long until.....?

I like a good story and the truth doesnt have to be a part of it!
I heard of a guy working in a coal mine in the Bowen Basin, part of his job was cleaning out wash bay pumps!
He apparently sold 4kg of gold was tracked down and lost the lot.

See... as well as Being under suspicion of either illegal mining or gold theft now theyre pulling up your files to see if youve got a firearms licence :)

I bet they are. Any excuse for them to stop you right ?

Hi all
I'm fairly new to this (gold reefs, crushing, etc) but what I've been reading is if you find gold (any gold) you better be bloody sure where it came from, where your allowed to search or not or your going to loose the lot, not just your finds... :( :N:

G'Day All

I spent most of life working on discovering and developing gold mines around the world for large companies. I can tell you for a fact that unwrought gold or gold in reef cannot be traced at all. There are way too many variables except in very rare and specific deposits. We have tried, it would be a priceless exploration tool. One exception would be rare deposits like Kalgoorlie Where there are measurable amounts of tellurium in the material. If its in Australia that can come from either the Golden Mile or Orabanda. Tellurium does exist in other deposits rarely but is generally associated with other elements. If gold has gone missing and you worked in Kal and tried to sell a specimen then questions may be asked.

There are small GPS Trackers that can be placed on your Vehicle with-out you knowing. Car could be parked in your driveway, shopping centre anywhere... Private Investigators use them all the time... Have a Google of 'Spy Equipment'.. You would be amazed at what is actually out there... One of these devices fitted to your car and you could be followed quite easily....
Cops use a Special Microphone and they can listen to your conversation from 100 metres away... Simular to the Drone shooting guns they use in the USA...

That is true i have one fitted to both my vehicles in case they are stolen or the kids borrow them
Very easy to track using google

It is true, Gold can be traced to a location in it's raw state if it has had been previously assayed from that site.
Case in point was Roxby Downs SA a few years ago. They had a massive drilling programme and had every available drill they could find going at once 24/7.
There was rumours that there were some solid gold in the cores brought up.
Not some time later a chap was arrested in Qld. He had pocketed this lump of gold off the drilling rig and had sold it when he went home to QLD. When the buyer either onsold it or had it assayed the anaylisis took it stright back to roxby and current core samples.
So yes in some cases it can be traced directly back to the source.
I don't believe the "DNA like Humans" bit.

Mate go and stay at the Clermont van park ................ have a few drinks with the lads and if you have any good finds for the day, you may be asked what GPA where you detecting ? Next morning they beat you there, as they follow your tracks in from the gate ................... true story :Y:

Sadly i have experienced past members from this forum displaying the same "code of ethics" , they were well known old school "highly respected" prospectors.

You think you know people but the old pros develop a sweet talking gift of the gab and play games alot worse than the above.

I have also shared productive spots with forum members here and told them its just for them only and keep their mouth shut , next thing i hear they went to a group outing and blabbed it to the entire group around the campfire....

To the exact reef outcrop, they know what lease it came from, Gold has a DNA just like a human.

yes thats true, theyll have the tenement no within a few hours, what you been up to goldfreak!!!???

Yes i thought he was asking a loaded question?
Best to respect lease owners rights to the minerals on their claims.

my interpretation of his question was that he had found gold in ground that has no lease on it and he was concerned that if it was assayed , they assayer would tip off their mates and there would be an EL lodged on that ground the same day.

I am sure it has happened before now.

I can assure you I am no criminal. It is a hypothetical question as I had heard gold can be traced to what ever source it came from ? I wish I did find a large lump of gold though.

Do assayers have some sort of confidentiality contract ?

I have heard of the Olympic Dam story but it was smelted gold from the gold room. That can be traced. Once its refined it cannot. Olympic Dam gold grade was very low. Chances of any solid gold very remote. All gold room gold is weighed in and out and discrepancies have to be accounted for. If the bloke had access to the gold room then he would be an instant suspect. Same for diamonds. The assay would really only be for confirmation.

Which part of Roxby had copper with a small percentage of gold in it ?

I was given 7 tonnes of it once to develop a process for them but of course had to give it back which was expected.

I was working at Roxby at the time and it was not the gold room one. This was a different theft and it was when the drilling program was running about 4-6yr ago. It was definatly a rig hand that took it.

These will only work where there's mobile coverage. I don't think we've ever found much gold within mobile range so I feel quite confident a tracker would be a waste of money ;)

How is it even possible to trace where the gold came from? There as so many variables that I think it would be possible to get it right.

Me and a mate found a gold bearing Reef and got a few assays done, average result 11 ounces to the ton.
Word got out from where we got assays done and we had a survey crew try following us out into the bush so took the really hard route and
they got bogged in a bog hole, which is where we left them 25 kms from our Reef. :Y:

wasnt a camo landrover???

you would not be spotted in that camo landrover tuna ;)

Drone shooting guns? Now that would be handy out my way. Might be able to stop the drones flying over peoples farms and checking the place out only to come back later and flog things. if only it was legal to shoot a drone out of the sky.
