If you found a large lump of specimen gold in quartz and sold it how long have you got before they analyse it and work out roughly where it came from ? How geographically close can they get ?

To the exact reef outcrop, they know what lease it came from, Gold has a DNA just like a human.

yes thats true, theyll have the tenement no within a few hours, what you been up to goldfreak!!!???

Yes i thought he was asking a loaded question?
Best to respect lease owners rights to the minerals on their claims.

It's a totally hypothetical question. Wish it wasn't. Found and area with some very interesting quartz, no visible gold yet though 8.(

Just interested to know if selling a piece would allow others to know where you found it.

Me and a mate found a gold bearing Reef and got a few assays done, average result 11 ounces to the ton.
Word got out from where we got assays done and we had a survey crew try following us out into the bush so took the really hard route and
they got bogged in a bog hole, which is where we left them 25 kms from our Reef. :Y:

There is a story with a happy beginning and ending. Can't have been real happy with the people doing your assay tHough

They can compare it to other known samples if they have them. Quartz is Quartz, Ironstone is Ironstone and Gold is Gold.
If it is covered in dirt, that may help them to narrow down the compositions of the soil maybe. But they would still need other soil samples to compare to.

Gold from one vein in one area can have very different compositions to gold in another vein within the same area.

They may look at form and percentage of silver, but still no way they can look at a nugget, and tell you exactly where it came from.
All they can do is compare it and make a guestimate.

Where a nugget was found and where it was said to be found are most of the times 2 very different things.
The only one who really knows, is the person who found it.
