Identify this stone please

Can anyone tell me what is the blue milky part of this piece of stone is?

It is a thin layer in the brown stone.

Found in a box of family members shed.

I reckon it's low grade boulder opal - I can see several colour flashes amongst the solid colour and potchy stuff:

Geez I'm a dummy aren't I , I thought it's "sort of" opal like, but wouldn't be. Pity it's not thick.

Dave79 I'll take it outside tomorrow to see if it flashes, can you explain that more.

I never saw the green bits till you pointed them out grubstake.

Put some water on it as well as it will bring the colour's out even more

Most gem opal has shiny flashes of colour when moved around in bright light, particularly sunlight. Even if its not flashy its a beautiful piece of stone that I'd be happy to have in my collection.

Thanks for the confirmations, have googled & very interesting how the ironstone is a natural backing.

Looking at it in a new light now.
