Yeah a great yarn and good information. I was lucky enough to be introduced to dredging but never found the Patch, buggar, but it was a heap of fun on a hot summers day.

Another brilliant story! I love his happy attitude to life. He's had it all. Heaps of gold, Done what he's liked for 20+ years. And best of all. He's been his own boss all that time.

It would have hurt a few when they stopped the dredging but it's a little like having a hunting season for wildlife. By restricting easy access to gold something might be left for future generations. You imagine if they'd kept dredging for another 30 years, there'd be next to no alluvial gold left in those lucrative streams.
