Disapointed , I have a coolant system leak that is using about 1 litre of water every 500-600 kms .. Im guessing one of the hoses has an issue with leaking when the engine is pressurised ...engine otherwise is running fine.

Nothing visable .. Endine oil is clear as is the water in the radiator no bubbles there either .. Engine is running good not over heating at all. But when I stop and check the water it needs a top up ..when we get to our destination I will have to have a very close look atveverything under the hood and find where the leak is located.madtuna said:

Buy a full hose kit, with good quality hose clamps, new thermostat and gaskit. And a tee belt. Pre greased trailer bearings.
Tee up a supplier of a radiator replacement, make model and part numberetc before you go. This can save a big head ache on the side of the road .
There is one product made, brand name"5 star" 3 in 1.
This is meant to be a degreaser, its not a normal mixture one would expect. Actually crap on oil I tnink. But magic on dirt and grime. Spay on your AC condenser and the the radiator from the inside the engine bay. Its puffs up into a white foam like an oven cleaner, slight caustic smell. Let sit for a minute a hose of under normal water pressure, rinse off any foam from paint work at contact.
This stuff will rid a lot of dust and crap from the fins. $3 a can from the reject shops. Great for under car cleaning to. 2 cans should be enough. If it has dirt in there... you will see it straight away dripping off.
Highly recommended.
Large spotties etc in newer cars these days are a killer in blocking air flow.
Most manufacturers recommend stopping and leaving car idling when engine temp goes into high levels. It keeps the water flowing through the engine.
Have the auto trans checked for oil flow through the the radiator and trans cooler. The oil on an auto goes through the radiator, if the trans is running real hot, it can make the coolant run hotter than normal to.
they have been known to block, and blow the the trans up.
Just think and play it safe with back up plans. And have a great safe trip. If going to WA say, google all the mechanical suppliers etc and save them.
And only rely on Telsra out there. Well... if any

check your over flow reservoir bottle. Than do tend to crack easy with age, some only leak when hot. Check the line going to it as well.
Some car designs are naturist for air locks within the motor and hoses after replacing coolant. After the motor gets up to proper running temp, and high working revs the air locks can get forced back in to the radiator then it ends up bubbling back into the reservoir bottle. After this happens you can see the running temp becomes less erratic. Jeeps where known for this with the top hose being so high above the motor.
