Hi guys, I am new to this forum and new to fossicking. I live near Tin Can Bay and I am keen (in weeks to come) to learn a few tips from experienced members.

I have had a go at panning and found some fines so I think I have that technique worked out...although I am sure there are ways to get better.

Keen to talk to some members when I can to find out a bit more about the Gympie area and even some starter tips from me.

thanks

Yeah good bunch of blokes I can tell you that. You'll love it.

Went and sussed out a spot on the banks of the Mary River...a few hundred metres south of the Aldi complex. My 4WD will get me all the way in on a short but rough track.

I am pretty sure some in this forum have tried this spot ...but its another spot where I can practice some panning skills. Will wait till school resumes so there are fewer kids around...not that they are a problem...just give funny looks to an old fella wander around with a spade, sieve and pan. :)

Also got myself a plastic cake baking mould with the do-nut bit in the middle. Cost me a whole dollar at the local op shop in Gympie and I reckon I can make a nice little blue bowl out of it. Will post some pics when I am allowed to do so

had a job fall through today. So it was either head to Gympie to give the creek a try or spend the day fishing. Opted out of fishing because I when last weekend for 130kg of fish.

Thank God snakes don't bother me. Also something pretty cool I saw was one of those little fish swim up my sluice from exit end to entry. I'd say all up I got to process 10L of 1/4 classified material. How well the Bazooka works I'm not sure, next time I will catch the run out and pan it.

1st crack at Deep Creek with the Bazooka Super Mini sluice. I've got a feeling some government body has filled that creek with fools gold for the tourist.

No don't tell me that...fools gold for the tourists...I am going there (deep Creek) on Friday of this week to catch up with some other members and learn as much as I can.

Hopefully I will see some real yellow. :D

If fishing is off the agenda maybe we will see you there?

I'd love to but work is back on for tomorrow and Fri 8.(

Well one spot I thought I'd pull a few shovels out; 3 shovels, soft area and I panned it. The whole top 1/3 of the garrett super sluice was 1-2mm thick of pyrite. Like some one had just dumped it there to wash down the creek.

I think a wall around 2ft high has been made in areas too (of large rock cover). I tried digging area an there was nothing natural about the rock layout, was like looking down on a retaining wall.

Its been heavily mined...you cant go there treating it like a virgin stream.
There are a few areas where the pyrite is 2m thick and i have found gold in it...

Then you get floods like this

And everything gets classified and left in pockets...
