In reality I am just hitting the same ol sites over and over again, that's what the Deus is really good at - picking the bones of well detected or hard to detect sites. Really need to get my act together and get some more local permissions, have already made up some leaflets to drop off at some prospective properties where ruins exist.

Last night I hit a backot of a oval that would have previously joined up with a park that has produced some excellent Victorian cons in the past. Most of the area was devoid of older coins except for an isolated corner that started out with the rams head shillng. That was the cue to start detailed gridding, and right from the get go I received a very faint but lovely smooth high tone, indicating eother a very deep coin, or possibly sitting on edge. The last prediction was indeed correct, an almost pristine 1900 Victorian florin aside from some grey oxidation. The patch produced 3 more early 1900's coppers (all edward VII), though unfortunately the ground was quite clayey resulting in oxidised coins - the last silver was a .925 1941 thrip.

Funny story is that I had previously found a veil head Victorian florin at the same location, and ended up scratching the crap out of it with the lesche, so I feel very lucky to have found the same coin unscatched the second time around. The detail on the florin is fantastic, the photo doesn't really do it justice, almost a fresh drop - going to have to be careful on how I clean it.

Spent rest of the night picking up some spendables before the rain kicked in, the badge is most likely from a local high school -- still researching that one.

Oooh yeah Heatho, made my night worthwhile. So relieved I didn't scratch or nick it, would have been devastated if that happened second time around - Phew!

Quick couple of hours late today at a levelled school site, I think dated from the 30's (or earlier) through to the 60's. Spread out a bit further into the scrub than usual to see if any more targets exist over what has already been pilfered from the main site (every man and his dog detects this site).

I seem to have a thing for dog tags, wasn't really expecting any from here and was surprised with two dating from 1920-21, and 1934-35. The pennies were all in good nick, aside from the 1927 example which took a liking to my Raptor digger.

Certainly didn't expect to find the remains of a side caster reel, espeically considering I was a good 60kms from the coast.

I still have an old bakelite reel still in great working condition-probably due to lack of use. :8
