My favorite photo is my sons first ever nugget found with a hired detector a couple years back while he was at monto repairing roads that were damaged in the 2011 floods. I've posted this photo before and i loooove it. Lucky bugger :p

Here's my first crack with the sluicey banker.
Now wouldn't it look great with one of the flash Goldrat mats in it?https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/img/member-images/7956/1474080074_sluicey_banker.jpeg

Mate that spot you're digging is the most common dig spot in slaty creek :) sorry to burst your bubble i know you would have got float gold but if you move down 60 meters just left of the downside log you will improve your haul some 2000% i promise. Nice photo mate

Here's my submission. This is my makeshift river sluice. A Supersluice pan with a garden seive for a classifier and a naturally formed waterfall takes care of the water flow. I found this little unnamed seasonal creek recently and decided to investigate. My makeshift sluice was very effective in breaking up the sticky grey clay at the base of the falls. The little grotto in the background yeilded 3 chunky little pickers.

Wally69, you've forgotten more than I'll ever know about panning and sluicing etc, but I've got to say mate... you surely must be losing gold out of that pan. Where you live must have big nuggets 8) 8) 8)

Yeah I figured I would try a harder to get to spot next time.

Firstly, a big thank-you to the "mods and members" that make PA such a great forum.

Another big cheers to the people involved in this great competition, awesome stuff!

The only reason that I have the photo I am submitting is due to this forum.

I met up with fellow PA member MJB at the "Ironbarks" goldfields after arranging a camp/prospect trip that coincided with him heading North to see his family.

I had never met him before but had corresponded frequently on the forum and via email after he bought my ute that I had advertised in the "for sale" section.

The meeting point was arranged and to be honest I had a few "moments" of wondering how a night spent out bush with a virtually total stranger would go.

Those fears were soon allayed and MJB turned out to be a top bloke and we got on like a house on fire. Speaking of fire, there wasn't a campfire that night as it

was pushing 43deg C. MJB was a wealth of information on all things prospecting/reading the old diggings and vaping haha

We found some gold, I gained so much information and knowledge and made a great mate all in the space of 24 hours. :)

Enough crapping on from me, here is the photo of our camp that arvo after a hot and dusty day spent in the goldfields:

The beers went down real well that night and to top it off, A thunderstorm produced about an inch of rain

Cheers,

Billy.

One of the best things I've found while prospecting - a small kangaroo stuck in a fence. The look in it's eyes said it all - kill me quickly or rescue me - and I set it free of course.

The Prospector

I've had enough of workin at the Servo
There's more to life I know
Grumpy old men, drive offs and miserable money
Time to retire to a life of milk and honey

Just one obstacle in the way
lots of bills and expenses to pay
Those lotto numbers won't appear when told
my dream is to find a ton of gold

I bought a new fangled gold detector
Guaranteed by the seller to find metal yella
where to try? ah Wally has a book
Chinese Gold Diggings, with maps and where to look

I loaded up the car and set out with spirits bright
10 or 20 nuggets for a start would be alright
Monkey Gully, Steiglitz and Misery creek
opportunities abound for the gold I seek.

I found bullets, shotgun pellets and horse shoes
Bumped into kangaroos and noisy cockatoos
Old tent pegs, miners cups and settlers nails
Alas no gold it was bleak I didnt want to fail

I shifted my spot again and again
Ballarat, Bendigo and even Castlemaine
I found historical shafts and coins of the past
But no gold and losing money fast

Suddenly, Eureka!! I had a great discovery
happiness joy and relief washed over me
twas the journey and the fun that was the gold
one last great adventure before I was too old.
