J.T maps help see where the gold diggings were and to also point out flogged groind haha I like the little info he includes like fauna and chimneys etc.

I'd probably go whipstick too, never been there before.

But with bendigo / ballarat, I feel it really is a' throw your hat and dig where it lands' sort of place.

Sorry Guys, For not responding just I want to thank everyone for your help I did have every intention of going to Bendigo as I was taking my daughter there for the day at tafe or uni but unfortunately for me she didn't have to be there so it didn't eventuate  ... just on a side note I have been told the whipsticks is a great place to poke around lol many years ago I when I had a sd2200 I thought I used to detect in the whipsticks lol turns out it was Kamarooka state park not far from Elmore so I guess the moral here is that it always pays to research where your going.... :8

I have come to learn that people don't give out many tips on where to go. How have you all picked up your knowledge

How have you gone so far?
The Bendigo Prospectors club would be your best bet. I joined a couple of months ago and all good. Found gold and the member are really supportive and loads of help. Been out on three excursions so far and all I can say is why didnt I do this years ago.

U need to be in a gold bearing area then really study the part u are going to work . Its not good luck that i get to go to spots in far n w qld but the result of working with exploratry drillers as camp manager which takes up to a month to get running properly .Then acouple of months hunting the yella before i break down the camp and get it back to cloncurry . The camps need to house 10 to 30 men (and nowdays a couple of women ) and u really get friendly with the geos cos thats who knows whats in the core samples but more inportantt whats in the ant hills . The geos take a sample from every ant hill in the area ,crush it ,cook it and put it under a specometer to find the shallow minerals . If gold comes up on any of them get the GPS and run u detectors over the area . If u dont find anything time to get the dry sluice working . Most ant nests only go down half their height and they take the sample at about 300mm up ?Logic tells u that the gold from that sample was laying between 250\ 350 mm . It took me 5 years to get in this position and a lot of hard work but u get to prospect in virgin dirt where there is some gold in the samples .BE SURE TO GET PERMISSION of the lease holder before starting .
