Hi scampa,
Gold doesn't tarnish, so if the coin looks tarnished (as opposed to just dirty), it's unlikely to be gold.
 
Found mine 20 years ago at a football ground..Yeah at first i thought a gold coin also.

Another member unearthed one on the weekend.

As gaming tokens they have little monetary value but, considering their age, they would feature as a top-shelf item in my rare finds collection.

I agree, good way to scare new members off.
