I don't see the point of locking down half the forum, it's easy to become a member if you just want to view the members only sections without contributing much. It's still a free country and free forum and if you don't want to join up you don't have to.

Why all the clandestine behaviour when detecting as well? If you found a healthy patch of gold or gemstones yeah I can understand but treasure detecting?? I dunno, I do it out in the open all the the time, ha maybe I'm an exhibitionist and didn't even know it.

Seriously though I detect on some of the busiest beaches in Australia and it's nearly impossible to hide, also I don't really say much while I'm working it and getting heaps, after that I couldn't care until it replenishes which is every couple of weeks in summer. ;)

My main honey holes I'm more careful with as I don't want them dug up by people who don't care about the sportsfields but if people are careful it doesn't bother me, not much there anyway now.

Also, moving heaps of topics will bugger the ordered disorder we already have here and would take forever to go through 25848 topics, we don't have that much free time...... None of us get paid for modding either we do it for the good of the forum. Hell there's even some clowns on other forums who think we get paid by minelab, lol, that would be nice if it was the case.

Waiting for someone to say that. I'd would think most 'guests' are actually logged out members. I try and not to be logged on if I'm not posting. I don't want my name in a list 'waving' to everyone else who I don't know from a bar of soap. Way too anti social.

There are bottom feeders as guest drive by's and bottom feeders logged on. Nothing changes. It's life.

And hiding subjects, possibly, may encourage others just to fly by as they aren't interested in reading or adding to 'Grannies remedies'. I've seen popular forums pull similar stunts of locking up subjects to paying members only. Now they have wound back the restrictions, spamming inbox's for members to return because they converted themselves to a slow moving forum which I can no longer be bothered with.
But on the flip side another forum I am a member of had a large member's only forum and to get access to that you had to buy a certain $3000 tool or pay a $200 per year membership. That worked very well.

Logging out. Magoo

This is the first forum I've ever been a part of and I joined because I wanted to learn more about the detector I am using and what to look for out in the fields to point to where gold might have formed and how it moves. I wanted to learn about whether magnets are good or bad on the end of my pick and I've also tried to find the identity of some of the more unusual finds by asking members, (got some rather dodger replies :p ) heaps of other stuff too. I like seeing what other detectorists and prospectors in general find and what they do for hobbies or how their gardens grow and what they learnt from their Grannies, there's fun to be had and stuff to learn with the quiz, can have a laugh in the comedy section, it's interesting seeing what members like to cook and buy and build and there's so much more. It adds a powerful friendliness aspect.
For me what makes this forum so good is that it's common thread is that 12500 plus people have a love of prospecting in all it's various shapes and forms, even though at times many may not even be able to get out and do any prospecting, there is great enjoyment to be had by living vicariously through others. Adding all the other threads makes it even better, more fun, interesting, even the arguments are entertaining as there are understandably many different opinions from so many folks in the one place. That's what makes it so good.
I still am confounded though that there are so many members, but online and guest numbers at any time only ever seem to be around the 350 or there abouts?? I do wonder sometimes, (as the late great Professor Julius Sumner Miller would have said).
Why is it so?  8)

Well in my stomping grounds good areas are getting hard to find..So if I find a good spot I will be greedy and keep it to myself so I can at least have a few fun hunts. But I have learnt if I post pictures or reveal my new found spot..This is what it looks like the next weekend  Everyone for himself in this game :Y:

when you get a private permission and comeback to find someone has jumped the fence uninvited, either by being scene or being trolled ]:D knowing there is "something" interesting      do your own research
back when i was on faceache i inadvertently put up a photo of a mate finding a sixer near a gum tree without the road a house not being cropped/edited out, the very next day there were unfilled holes 20 feet around the tree base :( :(
it is the folk that bottom feed, 99% of the time also don't fill the hole , that have parks being closed to legit competent detectorist :( :(

Fair enough fellas but I just find it hard to believe that there are desperados out there trying to "steal" peoples spots for a couple of old silvers that are mostly worth bugger all anyway. I'm never looking for other peoples spots I'm always looking for spots that others haven't been.

Not many swingers in my area I suppose so there isn't much competition. Though I did meet a local at Manly beach this morning who was swinging an excalibur. Nice bloke too, said he will most likely join up on the forum. We had the whole beach to ourselves.

I have put photos of it up before a couple of times and if you are a local you'd certainly know exactly where it is. I don't think anyone ever raided it. Anyway if they did now they won't find much, maybe a few pd's but not many.

Im happy to give any one a hand or a hint or even point them in a good direction.
But The negative traits of human nature , greed, sloth, avarice ,envy etc sometimes makes me wonder if sharing things on the forum is just feeding the desperados who cant be bothered joining the forum because they are only here to take advantage of the rest of us.. :(

Jeez your lucky mate..Years ago you never seen them now their like ants.. just everywhere and because everything has been picked to death if a spot is half decent it gets pounced on by every man and his dog. ....Im not kidding :N: Coin hunting here is no different to nugget hunting you tell anyone and its raided really quick. And if I sound greedy it's because I have to be.I work really hard for my piddly few coins :Y: :D :Y:

They also miss out on some pretty good bargains in the for sale section because they cant contact you. I recently gave away a beech scoop to another member, when we met I added another scoop for the kids. Low & behold if he didnt give me a peice of gold. Non members dont get that.

And what has that got to do with any thing? You posted it. There are bottom feeders logged in on this forum, they are every where. Just be careful about what you post. I deal with it day in day out.

It's called business.

It really does pay well to remain -( 8) )- incognito with regards what trail or breadcrumbs are left with either the written word or splashed around the backgrounds and horizon lines of our photos ,.... it can show where you have been travelling around to - regards places, or worse still pinpoint your home area enough to be followed to your very abode by the unscrupulous.
